Favorite Doppelgangers
I am a sucker for nearly-identical characters involved in fights of good vs. evil. Any video game or movie that involves this type of story is something I tend to fall in love with. There’s just something about a character fighting their "true" opposite that I’ve always loved. Here are some of my favorites in no particular order.
Sonic the Hedgehog / Shadow the Hedgehog
Shadow has left a bad impression on everyone lately, but when he first debuted in Sonic Adventure 2 for the Dreamcast,
he was absolutely perfect.
Samus Aran / Dark Samus
Spider-Man / Venom
Sonic the Hedgehog / Metal Sonic
I know it feels like cheating, but I’ve also enjoyed the classic Hedgehog vs. Robot speed race introduced in Sonic CD for the Sega CD.
The Flash / Reverse-Flash
I’m sure there are plenty of other comic book related Doppelgangers, but this one has always stood out to me. I guess I just loved the look of The Flash too much.
Astal / Geist
This is from an old Sega Saturn classic of mine that I’m sure no one else remembers but me.
Nights / Reala
Most of what I love about NiGHTS into Dreams from the Sega Saturn is because they left it up to my own imagination to understand. As such, the back story I assume Nights and Reala have is unique compared to what other people must imagine.
Lace / Anti-Alias
Sorry, I couldn’t resist, but at least now you understand the influence behind Anti-Alias.
Yeah, I love them too! But you forgot to mention probably the coolest two of them all: Link and Shadow Link!
Yeah, Ray, and what about Shadow Mario?
I considered both of those, but didn’t really find them as one of my “favorites.” It’s all just personal taste, really. If you guys think of more, don’t be afraid to mention your favorites.
What about the mirror prince of persia?
Can’t get much more opposite than that.
And what about Superman and Bizzaro?
There’s always Mario and Wario, Luigi and Waluigi (worst name ever).
Green Lantern and Sinestro?
Ray: Thanks for mentioning the actual good beginnings of Shadow. Honestly, I can’t stand him now but in the beginning with SA2… he was actually good (still evil though.
).
Also, thanks for the props to Metal Sonic as well. He’s been around the block when it comes to Sonic through the years… the movies, the comics, the shows… (at least in SatAM, I dunno about the other).
Shadow Link and Link are a worthy mention as well… even though there hasn’t been much done with Shadow Link. Just OoT and Four Swords Adventure as far as I remember… some sleep might remind me of other instances.
