   No, no spoilers (beyond which enemies return). For me, I started off playing SMG and thought “this is just 64 again!” - I was disappointed, and I thought it was overhyped. But as I keep playing… I’m more and more impressed. I passed the 60-star mark and finished the main quest. I expected that the last 60 would come from a bunch of rehashes and collection quests, and well… some of them did. But for the most part, even after the main quest is over, in a part of the game many players will never even see - most new stages contain a new twist, something that makes them interesting, something that impresses me. There’s such an unbelievable amount of variety and inventiveness in SMG, and that for me - exploring that, playing in it - is what makes the game so, so fun. I don’t know what number I’d give it, but 10 certainly doesn’t seem wrong. Reply to this comment.

   The only problems I have with the game is that even a drugged monkey could get the 60 stars required to beat it and the annoying intro in the wii menu the gameplay is amazing and the graphics are good, so those are my only complaints BUY THIS GAME Reply to this comment.

   Eh… I think you should hold all games (of the same era) to the same standard. Yours seems to be a little… skewed by expectations, or wishes. What I mean is not only are you comparing this game to every other great Mario game, you’re comparing it to everything you’ve ever dreamt of, an ultimate Mario game that doesn’t exist. What about other games? What would it take for them to reach even a 9.0? Well, don’t get too defensive, I can see your point, and I don’t think it necessarily deserves a 10 either… I don’t really care about all the extra characters that much either. As much as it will pain you for me to say this, Yoshi was a gameplay gimmick for Super Mario World. Sure he’s a likable character, and a better cameo appearance would have been nice… but think how annoying it would be for the developers to have to create a gaming experience based around riding Yoshi, whether or not anyone even wanted to. They made a super polished straightforward game without stacking everything from the past on top of it too. Sucks for us old vets I guess, but it’s not like they screwed up. I don’t know… just some thoughts. I don’t actually have that strong of an opinion on the matter. I just thought I’d explore some other arguments. Reply to this comment.

   i agree with a lot you said, especially about how easy the game is.. i got this game expecting a LOT more. i mean, it topped Zelda OT as top rated game ever way too quickly. Some things i think you should have added in your review though would be how the camera angles can really screw you up sometimes, and the swimming controls suck. it’s a great game. but for what everyone has been saying about it, it should be a lot better.    I agree with your score except I have to ask too. Should Yoshi have been part of this? Yes, but understand that in this game Mario get’s wisked off into space leaving the Mushroom Kingdom as we know it behind, including Yoshi. Did I go in expecting Mario 64 reborn? No, but I did go in expecting something much better than Sunshine and I got something much more than that. YAY! Reply to this comment.
