Tweet the Deets

RayAmazingly enough, this comic was Tim’s idea. I’m just surprised I managed to stay alive long enough to get this comic done – I’ve caught some illness and it’s only gotten worse tonight. Off to bed for me… a small video treat in a few days.

1. Evan says:

Holy smokes! So much scrolling. But still ncg.

2. GalileoAce says:

Get a chatpad! 😛

3. PkmnTrainerJ says:

See Tim, this is why you need an iPhone. Is it that bad entering a tweet on 360? Thirdly, how was Cloudy with a Chance of Meatballs? Nice comic anyways guys.

4. Keja says:

I had the same problemwhn I tried to catch up with a friend I hadn’t seen in a long time over the 360. My main problem is that the keyboard isn’t qwerty.

Give me my ASDF!

• FluffyPanda says:

You can change that in the region settings. I have a chatpad, but my onscreen keyboard has always been in qwerty.

• Omega2k3 says:

No it hasn’t, because that’s never been possible, and there is no way to change it.

• Chief Oddball says:

Actually, QWERTY layout for the oncsreen keyboard became an option in the NXE (system software version 2.0.7357.0 and above). I’ve had it set that way ever since — I find it much more intuitive than the alphabetical layout.

• FluffyPanda says:

Video instructions

I didn’t remember having to use the alphabetical ordered keyboard pre-NXE… I guess I blocked it out of my memory.

5. D3vin says:

You could have spelled it “Cldy w/ a Chnc o’ Mtblls”
Or just said, “Gone to see move, cu l8r”
I don’t have a cellphone, but I already know how to text,
STRAAAAANGE ISN’T IT!?

6. D3vin says:

THE CAN OF DR. PEPPER ON THE ARM OF THE COUCH IS TRANSPARRENT!!!! IT IS A GHOST! AAAAH

7. blaster says:

It gets slower and slower…
Loading time prehaps?
Lots of panels, but shouldn’t be hard.
You just edit the previous one to get the next one.
NCG.

8. TAYREL713 says:

Totally thought the joke was going to head in a different direction (I figured by the time he finished the tweet the movie would be over). Wait, that’s exactly what happened. Way to many panels for way to little funny. On the plus side, the “Up” joke is particularly amusing to those that listen to the podcast and know of Tim’s hatred of the movie so there is that.

• Doug says:

The fact that there is so many panels is WHY it’s funny. The alternative is to put it on one panel, but then you don’t get the sense of how long it takes to type the sentence. And honestly, it’s not like you have to read each panel. Once you figure out what is going on, feel free to skip to the end. I guess it might take some people longer than others…

• Gizmo_the_Cat says:

It’s worth it to read it all. Seeing the spelling the typing error and him backspacing it made it more funny to me.

9. Supersonic24 says:

lol, NCG. Tim, it’s a called a USB keyboard.

10. bobipine says:

Maybe you should had given up when the clock showed more then 30 minutes passed, or you continued for personal reasons like pride thinking you started that tweet you’re going to finish it, or greed, you didn’t wasted those previous 30 minutes for nothing….

and last panel Tim looks a little different, maybe it’s the angle… anyway, now that I know what it means, NGC

11. FireSpark says:

My scroller finger hates this comic.

The rest of me thinks it’s hilarious. NCG.

12. randomperson says:

awesome

13. The Gastronomic Gamer says:

I just realized: Tim drinks seven Dr. Peppers while typing this. No wonder it takes so long! Typing on the 360 with one hand is even harder.

• Keja says:

I’d also like to point out that he had seven cans of Dr Pepper. Now, I’m not saying it was a bad thing to do, but a 500ml bottle is over half of a grown adult’s recommended sugar intake and there is 330mls in each can, which amounts to 2310ml which is around twice the amount of sugar he should have.

Tim, I’m worried for you.

14. pcargill says:

NCG, but tim, thats why computer lingo was invented

15. Kvb says:

Tim’s… uhm… “history” with Up kind of made the punchline more confusing than it should’ve been.
Other than that, nice comic guys.

I especially like the sub-gags.
9 cans of Dr Pepper at the end. So every word took Tim long enough to finish one can… Yeah, that’s probably a coincidence.
And the empty room in the first panel also suggest that the typing took SO long Tim actually took a break to get those cans from the kitchen in the first place.

• The Gastronomic Gamer says:

Oh crap. I missed the two partially obscured by Tim. Good catch. We’ve gotta find every hidden piece.

Speaking of, can we have more comics with hidden jokes? I find that those are always the funniest.

• mocliamtoh says:

Also notice that there was enough Dr Pepper (notice how there isn’t any period…anywho) for one inbetween each word and one at the beginning and the end (I count 2 c as 1 word). Assuming this is how Tim drank the Dr Pepper, one can slowed him down one minute per letter. I can’t imagine the cause for this except maybe for the fact that Dr Pepper is Tim’s replacement for any kind of recreational drug.

This would partially explain the disaster with Lace and Doritos. See the Doritos function as an anti Dr Pepper, and really messed with Tim’s head. This is why he submitted the Lace idea to them. Even the real Tim was tempted by the Doritos, and if you read his news post for the comic, you’ll see why. Lets be glad that the real Tim isn’t as affected by Doritos, although we should pay for some Dr Pepper rehab…Maybe if we got new shirt designs, the money could go towards that fund?

• Leirin says:

What exactly is Tim’s “history” with Up? I’d like to know.

16. Mikallein says:

first of all NCG. 2d, at first i thot Tim was only going to put “off 2 c a movie” but when i saw the 2d c i started cracking up! then i notisd the time in the top right corner wich also craked me up! all and all good comic.

17. Ryman says:

I got the joke, but wouldn’t it of been better just to show some panels of typing, then going -30 minutes later-?

Idk, just seemed too long and redundant. Good joke, especially since we know somebody’s stance on UP.

• CKcheeseboy says:

I agree, I think after the first ten panels it was one of those “we get it, get to the punch line already”.

• FluffyPanda says:

Bah, you can scroll through it pretty quickly. What’s the problem? Personally I genuinely laughed out loud at “cloudy with a chance of meatballr” and I wouldn’t have done that without the enormous build up.

It’s all about comic timing and this strip nailed it. E(xcellent)CG

18. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Haha, Great Comic Guys! I loved the little details, like Tim accidentally typing an r at the end and having to delete it, as well as the whole bunch of Dr Pepper cans on the couch. The Twitter feature on 360 is pretty useless if you don’t have some sort of keyboard hooked up to it, and most “Tweets” will most likely end up just like this comic. 🙂

19. roadjcat says:

You should’ve ended it with you two watching the movie with Netflix, in your own separate houses.

20. Dominator_101 says:

Well, I really wish I could laugh at this comic, but it’s too blurry to read on my iPod… I guess I’ll have to get to a computer some time today.

21. steve-ohs says:

Great job! I really like it, but I can’t help feeling that Ray just did this comic to outdo Tim’s 15 panel comic.

22. BadnikHunter says:

Oh my that was a lot of scrolling. It was pretty good, though after the first 10 panels of typing I think we got the idea of the fact that tweeting on the 360 would take forever.

23. tustin2121 says:

Personally I love long comics because there’s always more and more (and because I like using the wheel on my mouse 😛 ). It’s hilarious that Tim was doing good for the first couple words and suddenly things just went crazy slow… I think that’s more of a joke than the punch line is. It’s one of those jokes that just goes on two long but it’s still funny as it continues. 😀

It would have taken me longer because I don’t know texting language and I always type full sentences with full punctuation, plus I HATE HATE HATE alphabet keyboards.

24. Good punchline + I laughed at Tim having to backspace once.

Kinda sad that people are complaining about the scrolling. ‘Oh, my wrist is so tired from pressing the space bar to read a comic! What a rough morning!’

• Dry Bones says:

I’m not sure if people are actually complaining or jokingly complaining. If they are actually complaining, then I completely agree with Eddie.

To me, the presentation (as in using 40+ panels) is part of the joke. You guys are just driving home the fact that it’s really cumbersome to use Xbox for Twittering.

25. TomX says:

Not to mention the 3 minutes between each character including the spaces. Nice touch. NCG

26. Kvb says:

Anyone figure out the calendar yet?

It LOOKS like the Okami concept art from the previous comic, but I can’t find an exact match.

• Wyrm says:

Here you go. That’s a comparison of the Ookami comic with the calendar. It looks like a pretty good match. Too bad I didn’t comment this before you ^^.

• CKcheeseboy says:

I kept looking through the comments, waiting to find somebody who figured out what it was. Glad you guys didn’t let me down.

27. Kilburn says:

That was a good comic. I’d leave a longer comment but I’m on a short break at work. Be back in 2 hours.

• Kilburn says:

Sorry for the delay. 2 hours can turn into many more when you work at a casino… Anyway, this comment is directed towards what you said about appealing to your audience. I truthfully think appealing to your own audience is important because these people respect your work when it’s good or bad. A new, potential audience can be much more harsh when they dont get a joke or dont like the art.

That got me to thinking: 2P Start! has one of the most unique, connected and loyal fanbases I have ever seen. As i said in my grave riser, you both let us in to your personal lives and interact with us. Not many (if any) other comics do that so well. Even when that once loyal “fan” decided to leave, you had a personal chat with him… And then shared a wonderful laugh with us at his expense.

Now when I say your fanbase is unique, I mean it in the context that it crosses many boundaries and generations. I’m 20, and I read your comics at work when I’m on break and listen to the podcast on the way to work, and you guys often have me on the verge of tears from the podcast. Yet, I’ve seen many young people on here as well and quite a few international fans, yet we all find your jokes to be humorous and we all (mostly) get along. You two have uniqueness that is hard to find these days. You don’t rely on vulgar content or violence to get a laugh, and that takes talent.

• Kilburn says:

P.S.
Comments are moderated now?

• Tim says:

Technically comments have always been moderated, but I’m not sure what part of that comment set off a red flag in WordPress. Maybe you were being too nice? Anyway, thanks for the feedback. We certainly aren’t going to suddenly change our style of humor, so we hopefully continue to appeal to our current fanbase, but I think we were saying that there’s a danger in JUST trying to please certain people instead of putting out what we naturally find funny (which is how you all became fans in the first place!).

28. Apkinesis says:

Awesome comic; it was quite lol-worthy (up there with the “In Poor Taste” comic). I started laughing by panel 16 (when I realized where this was going with the movie title), and panels… *counts* 43 and 44? Around there when Toon Tim went back to fix a typo, that was icing on the cake.

And using the 360 controller to type a single letter at an average time of 3 minutes and 50 seconds each — might’ve been a bit faster to drive halfway across town to buy a USB keyboard or Chatpad first (Toon Tim certainly has the money to spare) 😀

Also, the Dr. Pepper can on the far left of the last panel — the transparent-looking one — is that a collective ghost of all Dr. Pepper cans that Toon Tim has devoured over the years?

29. Tacos says:

Ahh, my eyes. I got the joke within two panels of typing and skipped to the bottom. Its a good joke, but doesn’t really flow nicely (which is part of the point I guess).

30. Highwater Trousers says:

Ha ha. Just hilarious! I actually didn’t see the punchline coming and the part where Tim accidently punches in a

31. Wyrm says:

I hate you.

• Highwater Trousers says:

Um, is this addresed to me? If it’s about my post, it was computer error that caused it break off. I wasn’t trying to pull something off or anything like that, but I do apologize.

32. Highwater Trousers says:

Ugggh. Sorry about that. My computer accidentally entered my comment when I wasn’t finished! Anyways. Punching in the “r” was hilarious and out of curiosity, are you guys going to see it in 3-D? If so, wouldn’t that technically also need to be in the title and thus, taking up more of Tim’s time?

Also, hope you get better Ray! It wouldn’t be the same as 1PSTART! Seriously though, hope you feel better.

33. Wyrm says:

Also, 30 minutes from 7:05 PM to when he finishes at 9:42.

The movie is 90 minutes long, so lets say it actually started at 7:30 (which it would never do), and Ray went to go see it.

at 9:00 is over, so by 9:42 Ray’s already at home when this tweet goes through xD.

• Snifit says:

Well your average movie has 12-15 minutes of previews so by 9:42 Ray is probably leaving just as the credits are about midway. Unless he wants to see if there’s anything afterwards.

34. Paul says:

Ha, that was pretty great! My mouse is tired from scrolling, but was worth it. 😀

35. XBOX LIVE; killing Twitter “functionality” one character at a time.

Laughed so hard I cried!

I kept expecting the punchline to be a phone call as to Tim’s whereabouts so I was very caught off guard by the mention of UP.

Nice comic; we have a winner!
What, no bonus panels? sheesh. (i kid)
36. I can see the page!

Really? That long to send out a 41 character tweet?

also, would have been interesting to hear ray talk about this comic with his odd way of saying “Twitter”.

37. mocliamtoh says:

Two things:
1) I find it interesting that the comic is quite a bit longer than the comments, and my guess is that it isn’t going to change.

2) What comic is that on the 2P Start calendar?

38. Narnian says:

Good grief that was a lot of scrolling. At first I thought Tim was just going to type “Ray” after “off 2 c” but oh no that would be far too easy. I find the concept of Twitter in general funny, so this was a win for me. NCG.

39. Dominator_101 says:

Now that I’ve actually read the comic, I can say that I found it pretty funny. I’m not sure how it took Tim 6 minutes to hit the x button to delete the r, but when have comic ever made sense, right?

And whoever Tim was seeing the movie with (Ray, I assume?) is a jerk for not calling to check up on Tim. Seriously. Shame on you. You should have called like 5 minutes before it started to see where he was.

And why doesn’t your cell phone have a # or * key? or directional pad-type-thing?

40. Rob McKeena says:

Love the comic guys. Typing in a character name for a new games is painful enough with a joystick, let alone an entire message. Geez.

41. BillyStalin says:

So I think it’s about time that I have

Risen from my grave!!!

I have been reading 2p start since Ray’s adventures in dating, and for whatever reason I decided to book mark page and I’ve been coming back ever since. Like clockwork I’m always here monday and wednesday for updates.
Anyway I really enjoyed this weeks comic. The punchline was much better than I thought it was going to be and fast scrolling through the comic looks awesome. Now go do that voodoo that you do so well. and keep up the good work

• D3vin says:

Welcome! I’m D3vin, The unofficial third player and your tour guide for this session. If you look up, you will see the ceiling! And if you look in the opposite, you will see our fabulous Floor!!!
Please no flash photography and hold all of your questions until the end of the tour. Moving along now…

• yeah568 says:

Now, if you look to the left, you’ll see Ray’s cramped room in which he is forced to work in by Tim. If you’ll follow me outside, you can see Tim’s swimming pool full of money / Doritos, and the diving board.

BTW, I’m Yeah568, some random guy who nobody really cares about / replies to. Also, I like to think I’m the 568th player. Always takes a long time for my turn. >.>

• yeah568 says:

Oh, and welcome. Tim should add an edit button. Just a thought….

• roadjcat says:

Edit button existed for quite some time, but it started to cause problems and was thus removed.

By the way, I never said “SCG”, so…SCG!

42. twarner500 says:

i like twatting better

43. Chocolate_bob says:

Tim’s avatar needs a beanie. TiMii has one. Why not his avatar?

• MetaRidleyR27 says:

I’ve actually asked Tim about this before on Xbox Live. Most of the beanies (that were available at the time) also had a brim, which just made it look silly. As far as I can remember, there was one normal beanie, but it also had a flame design on it, which Tim didn’t like too much. So really he’s just waiting for a beanie he likes to be available.

44. randomperson says:

great comic guys

45. Snifit says:

Good comic. Saw the typo coming but oddly thought there would be a different punchline. A nice surprise ha ha

46. FrostByte says:

Hi, I guess that I’m rising from my grave.

I’ve been reading your comics since *gulp* “You compete me” (no.44) and have been listening to your podcasts for about a year now. I also have your website on a feed for my iGoogle page, so I am always up to date with new comics, podcasts and news. I’ve been trying to pluck up the courage to rise from my grave for a long time, as I am worried that you guys will shout at me on the podcast! (Which is epic by the way).

Ray, keep drawing awesome comics and making your fantastic music and podcast (I was a fan the first time that I heard it).
Tim, a very late congrats on the birth of your baby, and keep thinking up new and cool ideas for the comic!

Thanks for making your great comic so awesome,
FrostByte

I’ve been meaning to point out this remix for a while, and this is as good a place as any.

Also, welcome FrostByte.

48. dj75728 says:

Nice job guys. I really liked this one a lot. 2P is back!

49. Ecoian says:

SO FUNNY!

50. Agent4286 says:

Hey guys, finally rising from my Australian grave, just wanted to say thanks for making such a quality comic, i have seen (and loved) all of your comics. and now i have just discovered the podcast, which is also awsome,

The only comic i didn’t get in the entire 2pstart! history was last weeks, no fault of yours (artwork was lovely) i just didn’t get it…

This weeks comic was pretty awsome, after the 7th panel slightly predictable, but the punch line was cool, and it was nice to note the exponential growth in time, in proportion to the length of a tweet (6mins to do a backspace?) haha

Anyway, Thanks for the awsomeness,
Harley

51. draq says:

Hey it’s better than the wii remote.

52. Gadoink says:

Two and a half hours… wow. Just leave a tweet AFTER seeing the movie.

53. Pi says:

Painful comic guys…made more painful by the fact that I had to comb through every panel to check for hidden jokes. It took a good 15 minutes, and I was sobbing like a baby at the end. It hurts! It hurts!

Anyway, before it’s too late to say this, I’ve listened to every podcast. I started listening three comics after the Animal Crossing one. I just wanted to say that while you’d still believe me.

Also, something for you guys to have a look at, although it’ll murder comic productivity-

It’s a pixel-art game that I’ve started playing and haven’t been able to stop playing. I’ve died 156 times and never gotten past level 7, yet I’m still enjoying myself. It’s crazy hard, but cool, too.

54. Pi says:

Wow, that link did NOT work out like I expected.

55. Cheeseball701 says:

I can’t wait to see the thumbnail of this that is posted when Kotaku features this in their Sunday comics!

56. design says:

Its tasty filler though–like the creme filling in a twinkie.

57. Gadoink says:

The sad part is that this takes up more space on the page then the comments do.

58. santy says:

Hey! nice comic! also if i scroll with the middle click in just the right speed, i can see it animated!

59. Mirby says:

It took almost three hours to write that? That’s pretty funny!

60. ithink2psturtisok says:

i dont get it

61. DJDragon10 says:

For future reference Tim, try pressing y instead of moving all the way to the bottom of the screen to select backspace. and are you a slow writer? becasue because its usually not THAT hard to write something on XBox format
