Pictures from the Arcade Museum in S.F.

Retro

TimI thought I’d share some photos I took of the Arcade Museum I went to while I was in San Francisco a couple weeks ago. The place is called Musee Mechanique (warning: the link contains annoying, looping sound effects) and it’s at Pier 45 on Fisherman’s Wharf. It’s nothing spectacular, but it’s free and it’s kind of fun to see the old arcade machines, many of which aren’t really games at all, more like mechanical shows. The best part is that you can drop quarters into any machine you wish and play (or watch) the different games. I had no idea this place was there, but it was a neat surprise to run into and a fun little diversion.

Ah yes. So many corny Sonic songs…. all in one place…
Even better, they’ve got Black Doom’s symbol sprinkled all over the place. I love it!

SimCity Without the Work [Update 2]

2P

TimI found this cool little site called MyMiniCity that lets you create a town and watch it grow. It grows based on the number of visits to your city’s webspace and can go from an empty field to a thriving metropolis. It’s not a game really, just a virtual fish tank of sorts, but fun nonetheless. So if you want to check out the city of 2P START! as well as help it grow, just give a clickity-click! It’s in a pretty sad state as of this writing, but let’s see what it looks like in a week!

[Update]: Looks like we can now also build up the industry for the city by clicking here. Each person can grow the population and the industry once per day, so don’t bother trying to click more than once. Thanks guys, we’re growing!

[Update 2]: Transportation needs work now too. But don’t forget to keep growing the population and the industry!

Have a Social Life. For Free.

Reunion

TimI saw this ad on joystiq and the slogan really made me laugh: “Make Friends. Share memories. For Free.” Tell me something, have you ever paid someone to be your friend? And while it may cost money to go out with your friends, is there some sort of memory-sharing fee I’m not aware of? I think it’s time to fire the ad department.

Tim’s Podcast Studio

Live!

TimThe setup is always changing when I record my side of the pocast, but I thought I’d share this week’s interesting setup. Basically, I wanted to use a nice microphone to record, so I got my good mic out of the attic, but forgot to get the mic stand. I was too lazy to go up there again, so I created a makeshift stand out of my vacuum cleaner. Surprisingly it worked well! Listen in on our podcast later today to hear how crystal clear I sound.

I Hate Spam

TimThe last 48 hours have been frustrating for me as this site has been targeted with lots and lots of spam comments. I get an email every time someone comments whether the comment is approved or gets caught in my filter and needs approval. Let’s just say I’m getting a lot of email these days. In an effort to curb the spamming, I’m going to close comments on all comics and blog posts that are more than a month old. We get very few comments on older comics anyway, so I don’t think it’s a huge loss. You can always email us if you feel the need to respond to something in our archives.

[Update]: Just saw that one of my anti-spam plugins was disabled. I don’t know how that happened, but maybe that’s the problem!

Happy Thanksgiving!

Turkey

TimJust wanted to say Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there! Ray and I are certainly thankful for all our readers who make it worthwhile for us to keep making comics. I’ll be honest, it would be difficult to pour our time into this without the feedback we get from you guys, so know that even when we don’t respond, you guys keep us going! Anyway, let us know if you have any “Thanksgiving gaming” stories to tell as this is always a great time to show off games to family and friends. And good luck with the Black Friday shopping!

Cal Band – Video Game Show

RayI’ve always wondered how you could pull off a video game themed marching band show, and this gives me a better idea. It’s not perfect, but it’s a good start.

Super Manrio Kart

This stop-motion video was made by a few friends of mine at school last year, and it’s just now making its way onto YouTube for the rest of you to finally see. I was pretty excited everytime I saw the latest results from them at the time, and while I’m dissappointed the audio is severely lacking in terms of music and sfx, it’s still pretty funny. Good job, guys.

RaySo there I was watching GameTrailer’s Game Head, when I was forced to pause the show on this clip. Did you see what I saw? If not, let me help point it out for you…

Ray and Tim!

Look! It’s Ray and Tim! Our identities finally revealed, here we’re shown literally standing and looking at the Smash Bros. Brawl booth. I think I’m making some hand gestures while confessing to Tim about my love for the game. Ah, you mean you guys didn’t interview us? You haven’t seen how big of stars we’ve become? And that fans around the world are begging to see us give an interview together? (sarcasm)Maybe some year…
