2P START! Live!: Impossibly Random

Live!

RayIn this episode you’ll hear: how playing Animal Crossing as an adult forces the media to assume you’re a pedophile; why Ray and Tim are incapable of making a ‘random’ comic; a remix that can’t be found in the usual spot; and… “Self Defense: the videogame?”

Woah, that’s a pretty trippy image. Oh, and nice Viewtiful Joe reference there at the beginning. 🙂 Although, why does he say that the winner has to change to a yellow outfit? I’ve never understood that.

I think the main reasons why I come here so often is because the comics are clever, clean, and are still consistantly funny. And thanks for Comment of the Week!

That article about Animal Crossing is just ridiculous. So was the stuff about Call of Duty. From what I played from CoD4, there were only attack dogs in like one level, and I could only kill them when they were on top of me, trying to bite my neck out. Now, the situation may be a little different with World at War, but I’m pretty sure that the circumstances would be nearly the same.

That was a really catchy Musical Misfit! It made me picture a chase scene in a snowy forest. I just may have to check out some gameplay videos from this. I’ll put up my suggestion later today when I have a bit more time.

Even without a T-t-t-topic of the Week, this was a pretty solid podcast. Nice job guys!

  2. This summer I will be completing the last resolution. I will finally be graduating -does a dance-

The red and blue colors are a good contrast.

Well the animal crossing article just shows that its a slow news period. Not like the nation has anything more important to report on. We must report on the terrible people that may play Animal Crossing.

The same goes for digital animal cruelty.

Ray, were you starting an idea for the game based on Lassie’s nemesis?

As for a 19 year old? Either she started school awfully late….. or she spends too much time worrying about useless stuff such as digital animal cruelty.

    And now….I’m out.

Hey Ray, could you organize all the songs you’ve linked to in one section so I don’t have to go through all the podcasts? I guess I’m just not that crazily devoted fan.

Sure. I should probably just make a directory for just about everything. I just have no idea how soon I could do it.

  5. Ray says:

Wow…. how have I never noticed that before?

  6. BadnikHunter says:

Haha at that Animal Crossing Black Doom. They were saying the same thing about pictochat. OH NOEZ TORTIMER IS GOING TO MOLEST ME!!!

  7. ultimateDK says:

I absolutely LOVED this weeks Musical Misfit!! But of all the weeks not to have a link for it….oh man! i guess i will just FF through the podcast every time i want to hear it lol.

Pikachu and Jigglypuff… I shudder to think.

This is why I love the Black Doom Awards. Those were two solid ones!

Cool Musical Misfit, Ray. It’s one of my favorites, of the ones you picked.
    I’ll suggest mine later.

  10. DrOswald says:

Really busy, got to do this one quick.

    1. good podcast

    2. I like musical misfits. Might have to check out that soundtrack.

    3. Its a good thing the dog people have never played Ninja Gaiden 2, where not only are you able to kill dogs, but graphically decapitate them.

    4. Ray, you should make a list of the songs you use in a the background when making podcast’s, it is often good music but I usually can’t place it, and I would like to get it.

    5. Random comics are rarely actually random, they usually use an unexpected punchline to feel random but are usually well planned.

I just checked back and I realized that this kind of sounds rude. I meant it more as a suggestion of something that I think would be cool, but it kind of came off like I was demanding it. Sorry for any unintentional rudeness.

None was taken – I agree with you. Yet I want to do more than just archive that alone, but have no idea when I’ll have the time to do it all.

  13. zijjh says:

    Ok:

    1. Ok, RAy, how dare you take some creative liberty and change the text bubbles! Who are you to think that you guys have the right to do things which differ!!

    2. The above comment is a lie!

    3. I agree. I would also want to know how to target innocent children!

    4. The above comment is a lie!

    5. I have to agree with the animal lover content. I consistantly do exactly what I see done in the game. I mean I run around in loops, jump down large green pipes, and walk around inhaling animals and spitting them out as stars.

    6. The above comment is a lie.

    7. I wish I had a musical misfit to suggest, but I don’t have time.

    8. I think you get it by now. Here http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8CfE8lwSaFs

  14. Tacos says:

Random humor can be great at times. For example, the show FLCL performs it beautifully. However, there are examples where random feels desperate or ‘eh’. Don’t get me wrong though, I enjoyed the randomness. Granted, it would get old fast, so I’d say use random as last resort and at the last minute.

Pikachu and Jigglypuff reminds me of what I hoped to do with “Hey You Pikachu” I was kind of a weird child back then. Trust me, those thoughts have all but vanished.

I really have nothing to say to either BDA. I did laugh heartily at the image though. And by heartily, I mean hysterically and unstoppable-y. But yea, I agree with pretty much everything you say. I might have even said it harsher (especially the first one). Actually, Dueling Analogs made a comic about it that was pretty funny and spot on.

Musical misfit is pretty neat too.

Watchmen? I’m interested to see what you guys thought actually.
And you liked Speed Racer as well? Everyone else I know dislikes it strongly but I loved it.

  15. For some reason I always thought the red and blue text bubbles had something to do with Sonic.

Also, I completely forgot about the orange shirt and white suit, yet there they are in the archives, in plain sight. I can’t recall exactly what my first comic read here was (12 or 13?), but it was definitely pre-The Makeover, comic #58.

Interesting Musical Misfit by the way… made me think “Nightmare Before Christmas” meets “Tetris” at various points.

  16. roadjcat says:

Hey, what’s with the people stealing my numbered format!?

    Anyway,

    1. Meh, I wasn’t a fan of the remix. There wasn’t much to it, IMO.

    2. Awkward Zombie (the comic I was referring to earlier) is random, but it’s not totally random, it does make sense…most of the time.

    3. Wait did I hear you correctly? The Hulk is walking down a street and a cow falls on him? If that’s correct, then I’d much prefer that to Jigglypuff and Pikachu.

    4. Wow, that was a really good BDA with the Animal Crossing thing. I don’t even know what to say about that, it’s just so stupid that nothing else can describe it. Same with the Call of Duty thing. Good BDAs this week.

    5. Is the Musical Misfit disclaimer because of me? XD

    6. I’m not sure I’d really guess that the Musical Misfit was from a game… and it sounds like a chase scene in an old cartoon. XD

  17. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Dang, looks like there’s a bunch of entrants for Musical Misfits already. Oh well, here goes nothing!

First is one of my favorite songs from Castle Crashers called “Race Around the World”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=TFT4LFfAVqQ

Next is my favorite song from Castlevania: Order of Ecclesia called “Sorrow’s Disortion”. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=WIPQTG2gcnw

I think that’ll do for this week. 🙂

  18. Tacos says:

Actually out of curiosity Ray, what would you say the minimum time should be for a Musical Misfit? I sometimes restrain choosing something if its under 2:00 or near that.

  19. roadjcat says:

Meta, I’m not sure about another Castle Crashers song. XD It’s apparently too recent. 😛

  20. Ray says:

Time restraints aren’t an issue for me – feel free to send things under 2:00, sure.

I’d shoot Pomeranians in real life, not because a videogame told me, because I hate those little buggers. I should make a game like that. Who’s with me!?

EA Sports presents Pomeranian Punter: 2010

I kid. As much as I’m annoyed by dogs that are smaller than my cat, I don’t actually hate them.

Anyway, looks like PETA’s getting involved with this one:

Hey, what’s with the people stealing my numbered format!?

I was gonna say that no one stole it cause numbering things is not exactly a copywrited activity, but, meh, ya, I stole it, mwahahaha, (runs away meniacally)*.

*I don’t know how to spell, but the dictionary is upstairs!

    Or at dictionary.com…

  25. I don’t wanna sound like a jerk, but I’m about to.
It’s bestiality, as in bestial or beast like. Not beastiality which isn’t a word. I’d say do a Google search if you don’t believe me, but that’s probably a bad idea.

  26. zijjh says:

    Or at dictionary.com…

Well, that would have required that I open a whole new tab in my browser, and I mean really who has time for that?!

  27. Wrenchmonkey says:

Hey guys, sorry for the lack of comments lately. I have a question about “Rise From Your Grave.” Did I have anything to do with it’s creation? Becuse you started it shortly after I made that comment about how much I love this site, and you seemed worried about choosing those types of comments as CotW. So you thought of a way to show these comments in another way. Just a thought.

Yea but FLCL is a anime. Most Anime has random humor.

  29. Tacos says:

I know its an anime. But not all animes have random humor. I wouldn’t even say most. It was just an example of something that used it.

A complaint for Ray- The podcast always ends with a promise of a better podcast and comic every week. They’re always good, but better? I would call to your attention the ‘Don’t Listen’ edition. Good? I suppose. But better than ‘The Argument Edition’? I think not. False advertising, Ray. You’ll be hearing from my lawyers. Although I doubt that they can beat the lawyers that Tim’s swimming pools of money can buy…

  31. zijjh says:

Why would Tim sacrifice his Swimming Pool of Money in order to protect Ray? He woud just hire another artist!

  32. roadjcat says:

Be sure to hire a von Karma!

  33. chriskatching says:

Ok, sorry Tim! I did NOT know you get an e-mail per comment until you referred to it during podcast 36 (just before you put up the forums). After that one I paused commenting unless I couldn’t resist. But, I already commented on most of the comics and most of the 35 podcasts by then…. -_-

Wow, yes thats a horrible port of Mega Man. Someone was showing it to me the other day … *sigh*

I played Parasite Eve long time ago … I just don’t really remember where this specific track is from (ending?)

    I like it though.

I have decided to start a weekly Black Doom award of my own. For just general things that annoy me. And that is why you should never do an unedited podcast.
