  4. Thanks for giving me something to listen to during my break at work! There is so much I could go into for this podcast, but no time :3 Too bad I can’t edit posts heh

Great Podcast! I liked hearing a million comments of the week. (and yay for being one of them.)
I figure even if Tim doesn’t show up for your themed wedding, he still technically has, he showed up as his favorite sonic character: none.

and Miley’s a cool character, I wouldn’t mind if she shows up again..just not too often.

  7. BrightNeko says:

    MURDERER! =O

hmm but on to the real comment, she would be nice to see again she seemed to kind of a good match ;o (though a tad silly)

also yes it would be nice if you gave the m4a links in the comments for us that listen to the MP3 only 😀

  8. Comatose811 says:

I am glad that we have a new (hopefully) recurring character in our midst. Welcome, Miley. I can’t see how another character will “ruin” the comic, but will instead broaden the amount of fun we can all have. I mean, she doesn’t need to be in every comic. It’s not like Ray or Tim show up all that often.

About Lego Rock Band, I think it’s a nice way to add some new players to the Rock Band fanbase. I haven’t seen much of it, but given that Activision and Harmonix have gone separate paths with their franchises, hopefully the Beatles Rock Band game and this will be unique experience and we won’t get another Guitar Hero fiasco.

  9. Napman1 says:

I won’t have much to say but whatever. Nice Podcast, didn’t know about the Lego Rockband, what a hilarious cashcow rythem games are now. And I vote that you should post links from the M4A version for MP3 listeners such as myself, because my brother doesn’t want to install quicktime for some dumb reason.

  10. roadjcat says:

    1. I actually forgot until today, but I actually know someone kinda like Miley. XD She hasn’t owned any consoles since the last Sega console and said the last Sonic game she played was Adventure 2.

    2. Well, Tingle could always distribute the beers.

    3. Actually, the comic can pretty much be filed under “Random” and considering how much you guys don’t like doing random comics, you do them pretty well.

    4. Ray, are you still having problems with the English language?

    5. I swear, the jeopardy music was about to play during that Rise From Your Grave. XD

    6. Actually, I just bought Sonic Heroes because it was the last Sonic game I really played and I never finished it, so I bought it…I guess I get to hear Charmy making annoying sounds. But I think I’ll go through Team Dark first for obvious reasons.

    7. You said you draw people inspired by Sonic characters by mistake, but I’ve yet to see a purple/black Rouge girl! Is it just me or am I the only one without an aversion to Rouge. I’m the only one that seems to like her…is it because she was in the last good Sonic game? 😛

    8. I like how you basically did a couple comments each until you got to comment 40…then you skipped to comment 88…XD

    9. Ray, you said you put all the musical misfits suggestions in a word document. Is that only for one week or do they stay until they’re picked? Because I’ve suggested so many Musical Misfits that they’re probably backed up, so I won’t suggest another if I’ve still got like 5 billion left in the reserves. XD

  11. roadjcat says:

he showed up as his favorite sonic character

It’s a good thing I wasn’t invited because that would’ve been awkward if you have to dress up like your favorite Sonic character. XD I would’ve convinced you all that Espio was in fact my favorite Sonic character (though he’s actually my second).

  13. sheppy says:

God, how can I disagree with a man who’s played Rocket Knight Adventures? Much better than the sequel they did…

Anywho, I will disagree. Here is why. Ray… have you PLAYED Rock Band 1 or 2? I ask this because even in the T rated game (yes, T), you get lyrics like “I love her, I need her, I seed her” (Highway Star), “Open up your hate, and let it flow into me” (Down with the Sickness), and of course “He takes of her dress now” (Mr. Brightside). Truthfully, I haven’t let my niece and nephew play the game just because I don’t want to have to explain what Devo lyrics MEAN (even when Disney nuetors them… damn Devo 2.0). So from that standpoint, a Kidz Bop version of Rock Band, frankly, is long overdue.

Also, younger kids cannot play it. As to how the Lego fits, well, maybe it does, maybe it doesn’t. What we HAVE are screenshots and six songs. We also have mentions of things like “using your rock to defend against a giant lego dinosaur.” Sounds goofy and stupid, but hey… we have tastes. Children? Not so much. And I dare you to find a kid over the age of 4 who doesn’t know the main chorus of Kung Fu Fighting…

So in that regard, yeah. Lego Rock Band is stupid. But then again, I’M not their target audience. And frankly, neither are you. That’s the secret to this entire rise of the casual stupid games. They aren’t for us. Just because there is a Game Party 2 on Wii doesn’t mean Gears of War 2 no longer exists. I mean if you want a sign that we’re not being ignored… we have a Batman game coming up, based on Stealth for the first time ever, where CRIMINAL FEAR is a gameplay element. That definately isn’t for the new gamers… let them have their Lego Rock Bands and WiiFits… I’ll get to strike fear in criminal hearts as voiced by Kevin Conroy.

  14. CKcheeseboy says:

I think on the Lego Rock Band issue I agree mostly with Tim, but I do see Ray’s point. Parents who see Lego Rock Band won’t have to give a second thought to whether they should let their kids play it (assuming the parents pay attention to that kind of thing, but that’s another issue). I can see where Ray is coming from, though, that Lego may not be the best brand to do that with, since the Legos don’t really add a ton themselves. There are probably other brands that would give the same message, but some of them come with their own drawbacks. A Disney Rock Band would be blatantly kid friendly, but would likely be focused on Disney music, where Lego rock band can focus on (for lack of a better word) “real” music. I can’t think of other “kid friendly” brands off the top of my head, but I think you probably get my point.

Also, some features briefly mentioned include building furniture or something with bricks you earn by playing songs, as well as customizing your band/roadies/crew/etc. minifigs, which gives more credibility to the Lego idea than just a few bricks on the stage. I think in that respect, (as sheppy kind of beat me to) we should at least wait until we have more than a few screenshots before saying the Lego branding is pointless. It may end up being that way, but I think they at least deserve the benefit of the doubt until we get some really in-depth information about it.

  15. BadnikHunter says:

Yay! second comment of the week mention. NPG! I find the lego rockband not so much trying to make a family friendly as much as to milk the lego franchises for as much as they could.

  16. CKcheeseboy says:

Also (sorry for the double post), I remember Penny Arcade mentioning Guitar Praise, which is kind of similar to Lego Rock Band. It’s a slightly different target audience (specifically Christians instead of just “family oriented”), but it’s general purpose is to be a game for people who prefer something cleaner than the normal Rock Bands/Guitar Heros. I’ve seen the argument that there should just be a downloadable skin to make people Legos, but I think that misses the point. The game’s main target audience is people who don’t already have a Rock Band game because of some of the content (in addition to some lyrics, some of the female characters’ clothing isn’t exactly family oriented), so DLC would mean nothing to them.

As a side note, I would love for there to be some Christian DLC (other than the one Kutless song) for Rock Band. Guitar Praise was a decent idea, but since it was PC only I wasn’t going to shell out for a new guitar, and a few of the songs they picked, while decent songs, may not have been overly fun to play. I would love it if they had some DLC focused on bands like Skillet, dc Talk, or Thousand Foot Krutch, though.

Oh, and as far as Miley goes, I think it would be nice to have a new character, as long as you don’t force using her just to have a new person (which shouldn’t be an issue since you’ve mentioned before you try not to do that kind of thing). Although if you made the last few panels comic Ray’s dream, it would be kind of odd to explain without going “oh yeah, that never actually happened, so here we are not married”. Although in comic worlds you can really do whatever you want with continuity and make fans figure it out for themselves.

  17. CKcheeseboy says:

Crap, sorry for the triple post, but:

Gee, who could your favorite be? I have no idea…Robotnik? Knux? Omochao? Who?

    😛

  18. D3vin says:

I missed that podcast, since I missed that episode and I don’t listen the and didn’t really start watching them until after 40-ish

I am not the third guy, I’m the UNOFFICIAL 3rd guy. Too bad I couldn’t dress up as Knuckles at the wedding, Maybe Were-Ray can make an appearance as a curse of lackluster Sonic games.

  19. Ray says:

Thanks for the comments you guys, much appreciated.

Feel free to keep suggesting Musical Misfits – I can never have to many to choose from. Thanks.

As for the LEGO Rock Band BDA, I guess I could best explain my opinion with this statement: A LEGO game could always be made as kids game, but a kids game can not always make sense as a LEGO game. In other words, I have no qualms with Rock Band taking a kid-friendly approach, but I feel the LEGO brand is being forced into something for no other reason than to “look” kid-friendly.

As a money issue though, it’s friggin’ brilliant.

And I’m more than happy to change my opinion of LEGO Rock Band if the game is released and they prove there’s a lot more to be had with merging the two than my little mind was able to imagine.

P.S. I said “Kung Fu Fighting” in disbelief as in – “what kid is going to recognize the people in the band who did that song?”
I wasn’t referring to the song itself – because it’s perfect for this game.

  20. sheppy says:

Well, I still say you’re holding Lego Rock Band to standards the other Lego Games never had to meet but we can agree to disagree. Frankly I thought one of you guys would mention Konami’s dropping of Six Days in Fallujah as a Black Boom. I mean they are dropping it because of controversy but why is games the ONLY medium on the planet that can’t talk about Iraq? Books, music, movies, all had their Iraq stories in spades. But games? We can DO an Iraq war story but we have to rename the location Kerplunkinstania so we won’t offend the idiots who still SOMEHOW believe games haven’t changed in 30+ years.

  21. sheppy says:

Actually, come to think of it, this podcast seems pretty harsh on any Rock Band that doesn’t fall inside the main series since you guys seemed to bag Rock Band Unplugged (to which I still say this: Why don’t you, a fan of Rez, own a copy of Amplitude yet?!?). Oh well, agree to disagree…

*looks at the clock* God I hate having to kill time before running off to work. That’s the only reason I’m making these arguements, you know.

  22. CKcheeseboy says:

P.S. I said “Kung Fu Fighting” in disbelief as in – “what kid is going to recognize the people in the band who did that song?”
I wasn’t referring to the song itself – because it’s perfect for this game.

On that note, the Rock Band games aren’t the ones that have had the original artists in the game, that was all Guitar Hero, so if they continue the trend, there probably wouldn’t be anything like that anyway, it’d all just be made up Lego people.

  23. roadjcat says:

I might actually try Rock Band/Guitar Hero if they did that. I don’t tend to listen to rock-y Christian Music, but I know DC Talk, and I think actually knowing what songs I’m playing would actually make me want to try the series.

I know I haven’t commented on a podcast in a while so here I am (but not quite in full). NPG.

Also, my musical misfits, brought to you from my favorite MarioKart game. Super Circuit!! I tried to limit it to five, but I got caught up and have 7 options.
    Rainbow Road
    Sunset Wilds
    Sky Garden
    Bowser Castle
    Snow Land
    Circuit Tracks
    Title Screen

  26. ultimateDK says:

Wait, really?! I’m not really arguing, but I’m just curious…what do you like so much about Super Circuit? I mean, I own it (just because it technically is a Mario Kart game) but I found it to be the most forgettable of all the Mario Kart games…and that’s including the Arcade ones with Pac-man as a playable character. It had little to no flair to it. IMO, MKDS is above and beyond my favorite Mario Kart game.

It was the first one I owned, so it does have some nostalgia. But otherwise, I absolutely love the giant track selection, the way the game plays (its very different, but I love it) and the coin=speed system. It just added a huge layer of stuff that I don’t think other Mariokarts have reached for me. And to this day, I still play it relatively regularly. Don’t get me wrong, I still love the DS one, but SC is still more appealing to me.

That’s cool. And I can totally respect nostalgia. I mean, after all, that’s all us Sonic fans have going for us now, right? lol (jk, I actually kinda liked SatBK 🙂 )

And the worst part is they STILL found a way to have a Lego Chip.

  33. A. Links outside of the M4A version would be handy. Half the time I’m listening via iPod during my commute. But, really good stuff that I can remember for the entirety of an 8-10 hr workday? I’ll go back for that.

    B. Another new 2P START! character? I say yes. I see some similarities to Lace. Or maybe that’s imagined. Pixel-powered superhero by day, Mild-mannered Miley by night?

    C. Not sure what else I can add to the Lego RB debate. Once I realized the concept was to have a more family friendly RB everything “clicked” (pun intended). And though I’m not the target audience whatsoever, I’m still intrigued. The kid in me would still love to play with Legos, digital or otherwise.

  34. MetaRidleyR27 says:

I generally don’t like or dislike Comic Talk, but this one was pretty good. It was cool to hear about how this comic was created and how the lack of sleep impacted Ray the next day.

It warms my heart a little bit when people mention those achievements I made back a while ago. I really should make more to get to 1000 Gamerscore… The amount of Grave-Risers and Comments of the Week was crazy!

Cool remix! It’s stuff like this that makes me want to beat Super Mario World, but everytime I try, I get stuck in the forest and eventually give up. 🙁

With the Lego Rockband BDA, I can definitely see both sides of the argument. Chances are, I won’t buy (or even rent) it, but I haven’t even done so for the first two Rockbands (though I should). And I agree entirely with Tim’s BDA. It’s ridiculous how the media always tries to give gaming a bad name.

Finally Nice Podcast Guys! The Musical Misfit was pretty catchy this week. I might suggest one, we’ll see.

  35. MetaRidleyR27 says:

You know, I was actually thinking the same thing. The ponytail, the similar color schemes, not to mention that Ray once called Lace “the girl of his dreams”.

Great job on the podcast guys! Looking forward to next week already!

  42. Kvb says:

No! No girl gamer character! Don’t you dare jump that shark.
I know that’s been said before, but I really want to stress that point.

I wish I wouldn’t have to focus on the negative points, but somebody’s gotta do it, am I right?
Let’s get to some more positive constructive criticism:

For the longest time I did listen to only the MP3 version of the podcast. I suggest you DO start posting the links. I really felt I missed out on that back in the day.
On the other hand, some links might be considered spoilers. You should probably keep the link names neutral. Like: “(Ricky-ricky-)Remix” and “Ray’s Black Doom Award”.

By gum, I’d like the links posted on the site so either I don’t need to listen to it again straight after to grab a link, because I stream the .M4A version, and because I listen on a psp i got given which only supports the mp3 podcast. By the way, although I didn’t rise from my grave, I am from Australia. I have a great remix of a videogame song, which is the windmill theme from Ocarina of time (song of storms), and it’s a remix that isn’t just the song with a generic drumbeat attached, the creator is really talented. Check it out

  46. Oliver Strano says:

Whoops, double post. The link is here.

  47. AttackRaccoon says:

I’m gonna vote for the links to be posted on the website also. I listen to the podcast on a PSP, too. Sometimes I’ll write notes to myself if you guys talk about something I find interesting (not to say that I don’t find what most you guys talk about interesting. Then I wouldn’t listen to the podcast. Anyway…) but I hate missing the funny pictures and stuff. Every time I hear the snapshot noise, it’s just a reminder that I can’t see what’s so funny. It makes me sad. 🙁

  49. says:

That comic wasn’t funny. Really. This podcast is better about 5 minutes in.
I have insomnia so I don’t have those next day problems with staying up to late (say playing LttP).

I will be frank, this is one of your worst, on par with Bad Company.

Come on sanctuary Music, nope darn no Uranium for me. That how dare they is till funny.
Yea just call it Booty, its booty. Don’t call it loot call it booty. I don’t understand why everyone found this comic so funny… That Chip thing is a good point though, you need to rip on Charmy more then Chip.

This comic wasn’t great, does that mean it still gets great comets. The first one was okay, it was a bit creepy if you ask me. Your next comic is great! I love how Ray imagines girls as sonic characters. You got the creepy or whatever right. All she has is nubby elbows. Tim that was what I was thinking! He has two many hands… Your room sounds frightening! The huge rings would have been funnier then the comic.

No interest in the Remix as per usual, at least normally there short unlike Musical Misfits.

Black Doom time! Finally one having nothing to do with Nintendo or Nintendo fans.. You seam right, the person and maybe the drums. That is true but I see Tim’s point about the family friendly if that is true. Wii Music x Rock Band. Its the final count down! No Tims opinion is right. My point exactly. Yea probably. Wait is that the light world dungeon music from LttP. Sweet! I want to play LttP now. Not sure though. Nope it isnt it. But I still want to play LttP. LttP is awesome. But yea, parents should be in control, which mine was. AHG NO NOT STATS STATS IS BAD AHHHHHHHHHHHHH! STATS!!!!!!!! Of course News organization will take it. They only exist to make money. I hate the media. They deserve every black Doom award ever given to them or anyone else.

Now to skip the musical misfit… If it was long enough to easily skip that way.

    The bonus scene was okay.

The how dare they is till funny doesn’t make sense to me, but I wrote it last night when I was tired so deal with it.
