Mega Wait

TimWe were really determined to do a Mega Man comic this week and I’m happy with what we came up with. The first version Ray sent me was one panel and very tiny (to fit all the Robot Masters in there), which gave it a unique look but was just too small to appreciate the different expressions and poses each frustrated villain had. Hope you enjoy! (P.S. – Happy Birthday Sarah!)

RayHere’s the original comic I made for those interested. In some ways I still prefer it.

Hmm I love Megaman but, honestly, I’m just not sure. It’s a good pun and a good comic, but I think the potential is far greater.

Geez, I finally get first comment (unless someone grabbed it while I’m typing this) and I’m laughing out loud from the comic. A part of my soul just died.

2. CKcheeseboy says:

Ugh. I can’t believe you guys had the GUTS to make such a bad pun. But seriously, nICE comic. I thought it was the BOMB. You’ve really been on FIRE the past couple of weeks.

Umm…ELEC?

3. DrOswald says:

I think I am missing the point of the joke. Is anyone else confused, or is it just me?

4. Tacos says:

It’s punny.

No, it just doesn’t quite do it for me. Too much buildup for the joke. Also, I’ve never gotten into Megaman so all the pretty artwork is somewhat lost on me.

5. CKcheeseboy says:

I think I am missing the point of the joke. Is anyone else confused, or is it just me?

That red guy’s name is “Cut Man”.

6. DrOswald says:

I get that it has a pun in it, but one pun doesn’t really seem like much to carry a comic. I’m wondering if there is another reason to be laughing. If that is all there is to it it is a little underwhelming. I wouldn’t say it is a bad comic, the joke is decent, but I also wouldn’t say it is a good comic. I didn’t even crack a smile. But hey, I really liked the last three, so I can over look one comic I am not to excited about.

7. Ryman says:

Punny Punny Pun Pun?

Too bad you didn’t have Timman and Rayman….

…Though Rayman is cutting it a little too close to my name.

BTW, I want to see the comic’s Prototype so I can laugh a little bit more.

I just realized I Copied what the guy above me did without really noticing it.

I’m going to have to stop these puns, becuase it’s time to shed some Light on this very concrete situation. Believe me, this is a Jewel as far as information goes. You’ll be glad I plugged this little bit of info in your brain. But yeah, maybe you’ll hit me like a tornado or splash the comment sections with a little bit of fire and ice. Believe me, I have the Guts to say this bit of information out loud, and maybe it’ll oil the way to better things in this Galaxy or you can bombard me with hornets and hot Magma that’s sure to heat up some contreversy. Seriously, this info is the bomb that’ll make a quick crash on the server. The air will be filled with random bits of metal and some bubbles! Seriously, we all have a love for those things. It’s kind of a knock on wood if you will. Not the kind of wood that’s as hard as a needle in the shadows of the morning. Believe me, flashing this kind of thing won’t make you a chick magnet. You’ll be ready to tip your top hat and dawn your snake boots. You’ll have a spark of ideas if you’re a Gemini. I’m sorry for this wildly crazy list of Mega puns. Believe me, man, this info will blow your mind, kind of like the electricity that comes out of Gohan’s body when he goes SSJ2. Just don’t have the blues if this info doesn’t rock your socks. Just don’t rush into this kind of thing.

Noob is becoming an official word in the dictionary! WOOT!

Though seriously, I wonder what a Noobman would be like….

Anyway, I just punned all the characters from the first 3 Megaman games!

9. steve-ohs says:

The comic is ok. I want to know what they’re standing in line for tho…Free ice cream, to play the mega man arcade game, to kiss splash woman (if she wasn’t in line)..
hey I was going to comment that the blue guy is in there twice..but I looked it up..its gemini man, and he can make a copy of himself…yay for joke i didn’t understand.
and happy birthday Sarah!

Well, there goes comment of the week. By the way, NSCG (not so great comic, guys.) Not too original, and what were they in line for in the first place?

11. SidGarcia says:

Hmm, not sure I like the original version, Ray.
Especially since it’s just ‘Page not found’.
Just kidding.
Anyways, not sure if I like this comic.
I’ve never played Megaman, so I don’t know what the names of the bosses, I guess, are or their powers.
But I like the small detail in the last panel, with the water/ice next to the cannon of the green suited guy. I guess he’s Iceman, or something?
One more thing, though:
It seems that there’s a difference in the darkness of the shading between the first two panels. Look at the man with his hat on fire, for example.

12. Kvb says:

Hmmm… No. A little too predictable for me. Sorry.

This probably would’ve worked better if the comic had been topical. It would’ve been a good comic right when Mega Man 9 was announced, for example.

13. SidGarcia says:

EDIT: I can now see the original.
I believe that the joke is less clear in this one.
But I like the look of it.

14. Loooca says:

Pun or not, it’s cracky and I like the work itself. And I think both would have worked, though this one made it a bit predictable. And I love Mega Man, so I’m glad you guys finally did a comic of it.

(Also, the rating system is gone? Since when? I feel old.)

15. Tacos says:

I prefer the original as well actually. Its just easier to see that they’re in a line and it looks more like they’re waiting. The smaller art is a bummer though, but you can’t catch win them all.

16. zijjh says:

Meh.

17. Snifit says:

I laughed, but it was a bit of a “I can’t believe its come to this” type laugh. An enjoyable comic at least.
And I think we’re all missing the bigger picture about this comic. That logo is freakin’ cool!
But how are you going to have a Pierobot and NOT have Metal Man in the line? Really?

18. LunaG says:

Whatever they’re in line for it must be good, so good that Gemini Man duplicated and got in line again.

19. Ryman says:

This would make a good wallpaper actually…

20. Matteron says:

Um ok lets see if I can say this…Ok fine…This comic didn’t have a nice pun. A megaman comic could have a lot more potential

21. Mattalorian says:

It’s a good premice, but it could benefit from better e.x.e.cution.

22. D3vin says:

This comic used to be good, I like the joke and all, but Cutman sneaking to cut in line would have been better with the ‘no cutting’ as the punchline.

Sprites? What is this Ray? YOU ARE AN ARTIST! SPRITES ARE FOR NOOBS WITHOUT ART SKILLS!

23. TAYREL713 says:

In the words of Krusty the Klown, “Puns are just lazy writing”. However, I love Mega Man, I love 2P Start and a good pun still makes me chuckle. Good job gents.

24. CKcheeseboy says:

I think one benefit from the original comic would be that since it’s only one panel, the joke is there and done. The way it is now, people might have built up their expectations for something more than a simple pun, so were disappointed when that was all it was. If it were one panel, though, there’s no buildup, and therefore no letdown. There would still be the problem of it being a little small, but it could possibly work if some of the robots were taken out so it’s not as wide.

For the record, I did enjoy the comic.

25. Ray says:

I really appreciate everyone’s comments about this comic.

26. Supersonic24 says:

Meh, I think I’m missing something, the Cutman pun was just too childish compared to the other stuff you’ve made.

27. DrOswald says:

Yeah, I think this is what was my problem. I feels like it is building up for a big joke in the last panel, but it actually isn’t, so I started to look for some other joke that wasn’t there. I don’t know what the solution is though, the original is way to small…

28. Snifit says:

This would make a good wallpaper actually…

I second this motion

what a creep

30. chief1185 says:

Nice job guys!!!

31. GX Echidna says:

I think so few of you are appreciating the anticlimax!

Imagine it. We have two panels, each dark and dreary, each teaming with the deadliest villains gaming. You know the ending has to be something epic.

Then BAM!

Cutman pun. You facepalm, chuckle, shake your head, sigh, and say to yourself, “Oh, that Tim and Ray.”

It’s a good joke experience utilizing a really bad joke.

32. ultimateDK says:

I think I appreciate the art style and the material more than the joke (read: pun) in this one. Still< i appreciate the fact that I still feel at home reading this comic than any other web-comic. So, a hearty NCG!

33. FireSpark says:

*groans at cascading avalanche of PUN*

Nice comic though. Always been a guilty pleasure of mine, seeing a big build up, for silly joke. And the fact that it’s a pun just makes it that much better/worse.

34. MetaRidleyR27 says:

The pun was good enough to make me grin, but I saw it coming. Although Gemini Man being in line twice was a really clever touch.

35. BulimicKoala says:

HA HA HA! This is the best comic eva. I mean seriously who knew all you guys had to do is take out the humor to make an awesome comic. Cmon guys you just got back into the groove don’t go back in the hole. I get it but it is boring.

36. roadjcat says:

This can be classified as what some would call a groaner…it’s so stupid it’s funny. And I mean stupid in the random humor kind of way.

37. BulimicKoala says:

O yea I vote that all of us try to outdo Ryman for his awesome comment. I would start but all I know is Ray and Tim are gay/sexy jokes and those have gotten really old.

38. BadnikHunter says:

Ok guys, I’ll be honest, this one wasnt so good. This one just didn’t cut it. I come here for clever comedy, but this just wasn’t close to that. It truthfully was a joke that ANYONE could have done. You could atleast had Mega Man getting pwned or charging up a huge blast but they cant see because the’re paying attention to Cut Man Sorry guys.

Also sorry for me, and many others, for bolding or pointing out the word “cut” or “ice” in their comments.

Im really hoping im missing something that i will see later…

39. roadjcat says:

Oh…you know what would make this comic better? Rou…oh yeah, I said I wouldn’t do that anymore, does what I just said count?

40. GX Echidna says:

Rouge makes everything better!

We’re talking about her corpse, right?

41. roadjcat says:

……….No…..just…no.

44. So, out of all the ‘bots, guess which one gets in first?
NONE! Flashman’s already inside =D
45. Ryman says:

…..Okay…Let’s try this again. (Please delete the last 3 posts Tim.)

O yea I vote that all of us try to outdo Ryman for his awesome comment. I would start but all I know is Ray and Tim are gay/sexy jokes and those have gotten really old.

Yea well it sucked!

Wow you just blew my mind. I envy you.

49. Gadoink says:

Heh, poor Cut Man.

The only reason I get this joke, however, is the fact that I saw fanart of Cut Man about 3 days ago.

Though seriously, I wonder what a Noobman would be like….

Would probably be a lot like me.
Wait.
That came out wrong.

50. Anon says:

Why isn’t Quickman out front…

51. roadjcat says:

Oh and by the way, I think I like the first version of the comic better, it’s not 100% clear what’s going on in the first two panels of the final version.

52. Bogging Down says:

Ok, so your Patapon comic was great. Funny, and to the point. Your latest comics have been drawn out waaaaay too much. The punchline is delayed beyond belief. The sonic facebook was funny because it was all right there, and the jokes were short and you had to look for them. The one where Ray is all over SSB is god awful! Dozens of panels just to say that you want to beat up Sonic. Seriously guys, work on your pacing. Your art style is fine, its your pacing of jokes that needs work.

Also the original comic was better than this chopped up one since the joke is so sub par the build up expects more.

53. cramill says:

Heh. Good pun. I liked it. Also, I found this comic to be very fitting because I beat Megaman 9 last night!

54. zombieman 98 says:

eh, not a big fan of puns.

also, i just realized i forgot to congratulate tim last week, so here it is now: da-na-na-na da-na-na-na da-na-na-na da-na-na-na DUN DUN NA NA! tim obtained Future Fatherhood!(that was supposed to sound like http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9hqpbEWeFMg , in case you couldn’t tell)

55. ubuntun3rd says:

I think I am missing the point of the joke. Is anyone else confused, or is it just me?

I don’t get it either. But I never played Mega Man. But the vector art is beautiful regardless. Isn’t it nice how it could just be stretch larger like that when they wanted to switch from the original?

56. BadnikHunter says:

The one where Ray is all over SSB is god awful! Dozens of panels just to say that you want to beat up Sonic.

To defend Ray, it was a comic that was simply to show off that he had texture hacked himself into Brawl. The only reason that beating up sonic was added was so there was some kind of joke.

57. Bobipine says:

Here’s my oppinion:
The current official version of the comic had me thinking of something bigger as a joke, or some kind of twist or whatever, first starting with some Master Robots in a less bright area, as if they are far from the main ”event” and the multiple panels give the feeling that the line is longer (wich is probably the wanted effect, if so good job on that) and then finishs with a simple joke, that made me wonder if it was some kind of line of the best, or fan-favorite Robot Masters, then, no, just a simple joke (don’t get me wrong, it’s still good)

The original intended version (1 panel) worked really well for the simplicity of the ”no cutting joke”, even if the drawings/sprites were a bit filled and cramped up.

Final word, for simple jokes as that, I’d take the simple 1 panel version, does the job and complete the joke with being also simple, unless there is really a more deep message in this that I missed….

Why are my comments always that long?

58. thisismax says:

I liked the comic, but I liked the alternate (or is it original) one better. It somehow feels more dramatic, seeing how long the line is in one frame.

59. Madcow says:

Hmm hmm confusing comic guys
I love the Mega Man Series to death, but the comic only made me grin a little bit. Hope you guys willd do another Mega Man Comic anytime soon.
Maybe with a “Ray” touch to it.
Have a nice week

60. FluffyPanda says:

I think you missed a trick during the change to a 3 panel format.

In the original the joke is kind of straightforward but the art gets left behind. Not good since the close-up art is so nice.

When you made the move to a 3 panel strip, you’re not just giving a better view of the art, you’re effectively adding a time element to the comic – like a camera pan.

So you could have added Cut Man (or whatever he’s called) walking alongside the line in the first 2 panels. That would have added a little extra build up to the joke and provided additional justification for the format.

I think all the scowling faces watching him stroll past everyone would have worked really well, so no need to change anything you’d already done.

61. BadnikHunter says:

Maybe if you guys went with the original i would have liked it, because there isnt such that buildup

62. Kevin says:

Ok, so in order of appearance….Gutsman, Topman, Gemini Man, Crystal Man, Splash Woman, Tomahawk Man, Flame man, Star Man, Yamato Man, Wood Man, Skull Man, Quick Man, Pharoah Man, Clone of Gemini Man, Bubble Man, ElecMan, CutMan and ProtoMan

63. Reed says:

As a Mega Man fan, I thought the punchline was most effective serving as a “cover” for the much more amusing (and more subtle, due to being SHADOWed by the pun) “Gemini Man in line twice” gag.

64. Reed says:

That’s Tornado Man, not Yamato Man. Just FYI.

So Gemini man was SUPPOSED to be in line twice. Oh wait, i get it, ElecMan is complaining about CutMan cutting, but in reality GeminiMan was the real one cutting! ACG! (Amazing Comic Guys)

66. Bobipine says:

As a Mega Man fan, I thought the punchline was most effective serving as a “cover” for the much more amusing (and more subtle, due to being SHADOWed by the pun) “Gemini Man in line twice” gag.

didn’t noticed that first, I guess it was a little deeper then first glance….

hey this one’s not that long!

67. BadnikHunter says:

Is it just me, or does the first GeminiMan look darker blue than the second one. Talking in terms of the original version of course, because in this one there’s darkness around him so of course he would be darker

68. Saturn2888 says:

*prefers the original as well*
This is one of those comics that I’m sure we’ll hear about on the podcast where Ray’s gonna be all “I really did a lot of work, this wasn’t copy/paste, by the way, I like girls.” <- ha ha just kidding.

I wanted to post some funny comment about how Ray was being totally lazy this week and then hear that Tim actually made the comic, but that’s definitely not gonna happen. You know, sometime Ray should come up with the idea and Tim should draw the comic.

I’d like to take a vote.

69. D3vin says:

You know, sometime Ray should come up with the idea and Tim should draw the comic.

No way.
Do you want this again?

70. CKcheeseboy says:

I used the dropper in GIMP and they had different color values, so yeah, they’re different.

So its a CLONE!

72. Kyzin says:

uhh…meh is all I’ve got. It’s a decent pun, but it seemed like a lot more was coming with those first two panels. And, as with Tacos, I never got into megaman, so the art and all the characters don’t really mean much to me.

73. Comatose811 says:

This is a decent comic, but I definitely like the original comic to the one you posted. This one kind of drew the exposition out too long before the pun. It works better as a short but sweet little comic.

74. Wyrm says:

Meh.

I’d be much happier with this comic if the origonal comic turned into a shirt! Then I’d voat five lawl.

75. Rob says:

Two Geminiman? HE SPLIT UP!!! >.<

76. Imbalance says:

*insert joke snare here*

Yay for overcoming laziness and rising from my grave!
I don’t think I could refrain from posting any longer.
(I cringed every time Tim said “How dare they”.)

I’ve actually been listening (and reading) since about episode 22 of the podcast. If you remember, I answered the trivia for you on that one.

Anyway, that pun was, um, interesting.

Keep making the comics, guys! They’re awesome!

Welcome to the bright side of 2P START!, the commenting side. More of a Re-Rise from your Grave, just a bit. Weird thing though is I’m greeting you in, but i only found it at episode 69 of the podcast, but you’ve been following since 22. Anyway, nice to see a new face commenting.

78. Epsilon says:

Argh, the punnage! xP

79. Wyrm says:

Okay, I couldn’t wait any longer, especially because this comic brought me to a pet peeve. This week, I’m going to hand out my own Black Doom award, and this is going to Ray Hargreaves.

I’m not talking about the pun in his comic, nor the art… no, what bugs me about this comic and others like it, is the lack of signature! Although you addressed this in one of your podcasts, you were speaking about putting your signature on old comics. This and others like it are NEW COMICS. Come on Ray! It’s your work, sign it. There are currently I can count 21 Comics in which Ray does not sign his own work. [Link Here]. (Shoutout to Comic 31, where you label the comic #, and 41, where unique banners begin).

Ray, you even signed a totally black panel in comic 79, I mean come on. Is it shame? That you’re using sprites (although there are drawn comics you don’t sign either.) Take credit for your work, for better… or for worse.

BWAHAHAHAHA!! LOVE this comic and I’m not even a Megaman fan. And that’s what’s cool about it. You don’t even have to know anything about Megaman to appreciate the humour.

Brilliant!! Keep up the awesome work guys.

I don’t really think that’s quite true, as you need to know who Cutman is, or you won’t get the joke.

That’s Tornado Man, not Yamato Man. Just FYI.

Sorry, was going totally from memory on this one and haven’t played MM9 yet

I’ve been wondering: What do you guys think of the Megaman ZX series for the DS?

• Ray says:

I played the first ZX game and found it worth my time, although the overworld was a bit annoying. You can read my old, old review of it here.

• Static40 says:

ZX Advent somewhat solves the overworld problem, although it can still get tedious. Most navigation comes from a central hub in the beginning. There is also a system that allows you to teleport to certain places in areas you’ve already visited, making movement much faster and more efficient. It also lets you transform into different Pseudoroid bosses as well as the megamen from the first game, with the exception of models X and O. ZX is also unlocked at a point in the game. It is a difficult game, but not as difficult as Zero was. It did still have the problem that you often found yourself sticking to a select few forms, as at least three of them are practically useless in conventional combat, and one is immobile on dry land. The transforming is creative though, as sometimes using the same moves over and over can get repetitive. I recommend you try it, even if you aren’t such a big fan of the Zero series.
