  1. A) Now I feel like playing Donkey Kong!

    B) When I hear about Scribblenauts I instantly start thinking about the Hitch Hiker’s Guide to the Galaxy; in all its hilariously random glory.

    C) The comic panel itself wasn’t so bad. And the text wasn’t that bad, but I suppose a little edgy from the norm here at 2Pstart. You could always re-insert with different dialogue if so inclined.

    D) DSi camera zoom? yeah, definite BDA. First time I saw it I thought it was a late April Fool’s gag.

    E) MIS-FITS! now Tim, you know you need to do that EVERYtime now, right? Seriously, that was funny.

  3. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Ah, classic Mario Bros. I should play that again sometime. I was very interested in E3 this year, so my comment might be longer this week.

I wonder if the reason NSMB Wii won’t be able to have online is because they’re trying to make it huge. I’m thinking Super Mario World on an amazing scale. Regardless, I’m very excited for both NSMBWii as well as SMG2.

I’m planning on buying Wii Sports Resort, if for nothing else for the free WiiMotion+. I’m sure I’ll enjoy it enough, but like Wii Sports, I’ll get tired of it eventually.

I completely agree with you guys about the Natal. The concept is astounding to think of, and I’d love for it to work, but it seems nearly impossible to pull off. At least, not for a cheap price tag. 😉 And Ray’s point about limitations in games was very intriguing. Your guys’ skepticism is great, keep it up. 🙂

Scribblenauts is a game I’m really looking forward to. It’s really ambitious like Natal, but is a lot more believeable. That’s a game I intend to buy quickly after release.

The comic was very funny this week, but I see why you wanted to remove the panel. I thought that it’d be fine to have the removed panel up. But since you’ve put up the alternate panel, I guess that makes it better. And I’m looking forward to hearing your concert Ray!

Nice BDA Ray. I was waiting for you to mention the egg and shotgun problem. 😛 I just feel like Resident Evil 4’s inventory was much better. I just can’t really see how they could have incorperated it into 5 effectively, espicially with the co-op element.

Tim’s BDA was just awesome. Nyko’s peripherals are just ridiculous, the Wii’s moreso than the DSi’s. I can’t even see how someone could efficiently use that.

Cool Musical Misfit! I just may have one to submit this week. And so finally, Great Podcast Guys! This week’s had great discussion, and great humor. I loved the bit about the tickle fight game. 😀

  4. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Whoops! I completely mixed up the start music from Donkey Kong with Mario Bros. The same logic applies though, I should play it again sometime.

  5. roadjcat says:

    1. I actually really hated New Super Mario Bros. so I’m not planning on getting the new version.

    2. Was that like a remixed version of Grass Beach with the Super Mario Galaxy 2 section? Oh and in Japan it’s Grass Beach, I don’t remember what it is here. XD

    3. I think Rosalina needs to return to Super Mario Galaxy 2.

    4. Spiffy, Parasite Queen music.

    5. I had to watch that Metroid trailer multiple times, lots of interesting tidbits.

    6. Maybe Other M will transition to first person similarly to the way you use Tippi in Super Paper Mario…

    7. Also, no mention of Golden Sun (not that I really care though)?

    8. I honestly thought the vitality sensor sounded like an April Fool’s joke or something…it really did.

    9. Brain Age music for Sony? Okay then.

    10. Yeah, I also heard that Milo doesn’t work very well.

    11. Can’t wait to see the lawsuits that come out of that Natal fighting game.

    12. Scribblenauts is one of my most anticipated games along with Ace Attorney Investigations and Marvel Ultimate Alliance 2.

    13. The remix reminded me of one of Knuckles’ stages.

    14. Oh, you thought Natal could create disturbing situations, some think the vitality sensor will too.

    15. I thought the whole “blue” thing was making fun of Brain Age…

    16. Wow, not that I’m complaining, but there is a LOT of Paper Mario music in your podcast.

    17. I’ve noticed that with Musical Misfits, I’m the only one that pulls the obscure songs from recent games…kinda funny actually.

    Anyway good podcast.

  6. Kyzin says:

Well, first of all, I can’t explain how much I’m psyched for Scribblenauts.
Secondly, I want a silencer for my DSi Camera, because I’ve discovered something; no matter if you have the volume turned off, or even headphones in, it makes an unnecessary “snap” noise every time you take a picture. You know, because of that shutter that IT DOESN’T HAVE.
Third of all, the wiimote keyboard looks like a spaceship.

  7. sheppy says:

The main reason why I think this is a function is because of less than honorable Japanese Train Salarymen Passengers. I agree, I hate the sound. But imagine the havok dishonest hentai’s could cause with the DSi.

  8. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Alright, found it. Red Steel wasn’t a perfect game, but I feel like it wasn’t given enough credit. It was a solid title, with its soundtrack being one of its best features. The song I’m submitting this week is the Katana Giri Theme. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ks_O7sLtw_4

  9. FireSpark says:

First and foremost, those Nyko peripherals have got to be some of the worst conceived, and goofy lloking things I have seen in a loooong while. Who have they got in charge of the meetings? If the pitch man brings in his little DSi with a monsterous tubular module hanging off of it, or a Wii-mote that is seemingly being consumed by a beast of a querty keyboard bigger than itself, the common sense alarm should go off in somebody’s head.

Anywho’s, Nintendo’s roll-out at E3 didn’t suck this year (completely), so that’s good news for fanboy’s everywhere. I mean who could possibly want new and original characters and games, when we can just dust off and polish up the same 20-year-old francises that have been so successfully milked in the past. Better yet, let’s one up this tradition, and literally dust off an old game, and rework so it seems completely new! *sigh*

Don’t get me wrong though, MicroSoft seem to be shooting not just for the moon, but some outer system trajectory with this NATAL thing. Yes, it’s an interesting concept, even if it’s littered with pitfalls. And people have been digging ona systems abilities to discern deifferent movements, or different people, but to me this is only secondary to an even bigger issue. Space. Room to zoom, so to speak. My living room has a scant 5 feet or so or free space. Hardly enough to leaping about in, much less throwing kicks and punches (leading to injuries suggested in the comic. And I can’t imagine many people that would have a lot of room. Even if they do, people tend to fill that space with tables and other decor. All and all though, NATAL is nothing if not ambitious.

And Tim, from henceforth, you should choose a random point of the podcast, some random word, and give it the DEEP SHOUT treatment. Just to throw Ray off.

  10. Kvb says:

    -Scribblenauts. <3
That games looks SO very amazing. Unless something goes very wrong, I think this will be the best game on DS. Ever.
Thanks for giving that game a mention, guys!

-Hey! The missing panel! Thanks. I thought I was never gonna see it.

-Banjo-Kazooie + Gears of War. Genius! I can see why it’ll never get made, but it’s funny to imagine it.

-Guys, isn’t it Ray’s turn to pick a Misfit?

  11. FireSpark says:

Got to thinking today. HAve I ever seen peripherals as bad as those heard about here? I thought I might have, but surely nothing as bulky as the camera zoom, or as unwieldy as the Excalibur-esque Wiimote keyboard. I thought nothing could be so poorly conceived.

I was wrong. So horribly wrong.
    Peripherals Pants

    God help us.

  12. DrOswald says:

I am betting that the reason that NSMB Wii takes up so much processing power is because of crappy, by which I mean inefficient, programming. The Wii should be plenty powerful to run the game online if they put a whole lot of programing hours into making the program efficient with system resources, but I doubt they think it is worth it. If they did that then they would have to delay it or cut content. If they delayed it then they Nintendo wouldn’t have a big title this holiday season, and they aren’t going to cut content for the sake of online play.

The Wii mote with the nyko keyboard on it make it look like a vehicle in a vertical shooter.

Nyko really needs to fire their R&D department.

I agree with ray about this Natal thing, but I would like to add one major concern: how do we do many things without a controller or buttons? how do we pull the trigger or aim the gun? With out some real world object to interact with how do we perform simple actions like this, and will it be better than simply using a controller to do them?

  13. roadjcat says:

-Guys, isn’t it Ray’s turn to pick a Misfit?

Yeah, but Ray said that he has a list of all the suggestions, so by suggesting them this week, it still carries over to next week.

  14. BadnikHunter says:

Ugh, I hate people leaving VERY long comments.

Short and simple, nice BDAs and Remix choice. Apparently ‘Natal’ has face recognition so it knows who’s supposed to be doing the driving, pit stop, and other things for other games. Scribblenauts and New Super Mario Bros Wii sound awesome. Also can’t wait to check my vitality after playing Wii Sports Resort!

Oh, and all you commenters, you don’t have to respond to everything they mention in the podcast. Just sayin’

Sorry. 🙁 I generally try to keep them a lot shorter, but around E3 I have more to say than usual.

    This is what Ray said:

We do read every comment left here. I especially enjoy the note-taking ones, as they will comment on quick little jokes made that are quickly forgotten.

And I like commenting on every little thing they mention in the podcast. Sorry. 😛

  18. sheppy says:

There’s this cool Arrow think on the side of your browser. You can click it and get this, the website ACTUALLY scrolls. This way, people can leave the long comments they want and you can ALWAYS just skip it.

Well I still enjoy reading the comments, its just kind of annoying to have to go through all those long ones to see the shorter ones which I usually read. But its not my site so I guess I just gotta deal with it.

Oh yeah, and you made a typo. Thing not think. Sorry, just kind of have an eye out for those type of things. Kind of weird of me, considering my English grade is the lowest of all my grades.

  20. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Hey Ray, I think you forgot to post the other alternate panel:Alternate Ray Panel

Nice. 🙂 It’s funny how he looks like he’s praying or begging.

  21. tustin2121 says:

Actually, Tim, on the subject of that zoom lens, that’s a good thing (despite it’s ugly look). Since it has an actual optical zoom lens, you can get real pictures from a distance, instead of digitally zooming. This way, you can preserve every one of those 0.3 mega pixels in high quality, instead of doubling them in digital zoom.

However, that doesn’t get rid of the fact that that thing looks disgusting and it’s bulky as an elephant.

PS: HOORAY FOR PREVIEW!! A good patch for the lack of Edit! 😀

  22. BadnikHunter says:

    Oh yeah, and MIS-FITS!

  23. Ray says:

  24. roadjcat says:

As it appears we are all suggesting Musical Misfits this week instead of next week, I shall as well:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_PrKh4p6UGY
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2Yi-k8bC_YE
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZbbUv1hz6mE (I’m pretty sure I already suggested the last one, but as the best video game song ever IMO, I think it deserves another suggestion)

  25. I keep forgetting to mention this, but for the love of R.O.B., Ray must stop pronouncing Bros. as though it rhymes with ‘grows.’ It’s ‘brothers’ as in Super Mario Brothers and Super Smash Brothers. Otherwise, I’ll have to start referring to him as my ‘Bro’ instead of my ‘Brother.’

  26. roadjcat says:

Okay, so I’m weird, that version of the MP3 credits I suggested for musical misfits kinda cuts out in the middle. Here’s a better version: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWVh69IPZYU

  27. NOT The Gastronomic Gamer says:

You mentioned Scribblenauts! Did you know that the creator is taking suggestions for new words on the NeoGAF forum? It’s crazy!

  28. Spectre100 says:

When better to rise then E3! First of all, NATAL will be rediculous. the limitations of gameplay will be decided by limitations of the particular person in general. can we say 360Fit? no… it sounds so much less goofy if we say WiiFit… who knows tho, it may SEE you exercise and tell you you’re cheating, unlike Wiifit which falls for a brick over actually doing a yoga pose EVERY TIME!

Finally, i donno if it would count as a RIKA-RIKA-REMIX! but my suggestion is a track of 3 Castlevania 1 themes as played by the MINIBOSSES! quite a rockin tune!

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Tuk1xtlV77c

  29. If you’re gonna go with Minibosses, you gotta go with Mega Man 2 or Punchout!!

I’ve thought of offering them up as Musical Misfits before, but they don’t quite fit the bill, and the Remixes are more Ray’s domain.

  30. Snifit says:

Nice podcast and I agree about Natal. I just don’t see how it can be used in a game. I mean personally I like motion controls but I also like to hold onto something. Its nice to have a controller rather than just wave arms around.

  31. roadjcat says:

I’ve thought of offering them up as Musical Misfits before, but they don’t quite fit the bill

I don’t even know what the bill is. I have had 3 songs that have been chosen, and 2 of them are from current generation games, the other was a gamecube title.

  32. ultimateDK says:

I wouldn’t want the DSi camera for one very simple reason:
I wouldn’t be able to put the DSi in my front pocket without some kind of police confrontation.

  33. dj75728 says:

Okay, I had to come and speak up on Resident Evil 5’s behalf (I did 100% the game afterall). There’s a totally logical explanation as to why you can’t trade weapons. Actually there’s a couple.

    1. For Achievements: There’s achievements that require you to both have every gun in your inventory and to have every gun in your inventory with max stats. If you could trade weapons you could easily just hand another player all the guns maxed out and bam, they get points even if they haven’t played the game at all.

    2. To keep early players from cheating by getting high level guns from others.

    3. Game progression: There are certain guns (typically the best in the class) you can only unlock once you’ve maxed out a certain gun in the same class. Allowing the trade of weapons can easily net early players with guns you really shouldn’t be getting unless you take a lot of time farming or you play the game multiple times.

However, you can trade guns [in the main menu screen] if only the first player is signed into an account and the second player is a guest (Which you can do in splitscreen on both 360 and PS3.)

If you’re gonna give RE5 a black doom give it to the PS3 version, for it’s splitscreen not allowing two players to sign into the game at once, thus requiring the 1st player to buy all the guns, health items, items, and gun upgrades for two people with only one players’ worth of money.

  34. Alec Gilbert says:

Nice background music – Chu-Chu Rocket!
