A Christmas Doomed

TimThis idea has actually been floating around for over a year now. Obviously we needed the right time of year to do it AND we had to remember that the idea existed AND we had to have the time to do it during the busiest time of the year! The whole time thing almost prevented the idea from happening this year too, but I’m glad we made it. Actually, the ‘idea’ won’t be seen until next week. This week is just the setup for the ‘idea’, but what a fine setup it turned out to be. Ray said on the podcast that you never quite know what you’re going to get each week from a 2P START! comic, and to be honest, I don’t think we know either. But I can say that I’m excited for the way this two-parter is turning out, so grab some hot cocoa, warm up by the fireplace, and read on!

RayI’m a bit mixed with how the art turned out… but hey, how’s about a little bit of forgiveness in the spirit of Christmas?

I haven’t commented in a while, but I read your comics and listen to the podcast every week. I just want to say, “Great comic guys, looking forward to the podcast!”

2. Talduras says:

*Gasp!* The suspense! It is killing of me, like one who is having of much fury!

Well, it got a good smile out of me… speaking of which, commenting has given me time to notice that the snowflakes collect on the bottom of the window, and stay on the bottom regardless of scrolling. Nice touch!

• Talduras says:

Speaking of smiles, ordered Zelda: Spirit Tracks for $25 on Amazon.com a few days ago. Thought I’d mention that for anyone that’s frugal-ish like I am. πŸ˜‰

3. blaster says:

This one was good!
But hey! We still haven’t seen the last TBC comic continues….

4. Supersonic24 says:

NCG, you’ve done better art before, but I understand that you were pressed for time. Funny comic!

5. Kvb says:

Nice comic, guys.

I have to agree with Ray about the art, though. Some of it looks really cool, but a few things are off. (The sled seems very 2-dimensional.)

Also like that snow effect you added to your site. Really gets me in the Christmas mood. I hope it looks as good on the other browsers as it does on mine. (Google Chrome)
Too bad the iPhone can’t quite handle it.

6. pcargill says:

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo, :O snow, when did that get there?

7. roadjcat says:

Not everyone is that obsessed with Brawl y’know. XD But anyway, the start of this is promising.

8. BadnikHunter says:

Wait, does this mean that RAY is Santa?!? Nobody else is that obsessed with Brawl!

• D3vin says:

no, I thought Santa looked like Tim, especially in the “blowing on the wii” panel
You have been naughty Ray, You are caught Copying and Pasta-ing. And besides, what do you think this is, Comic 3? I can’t wait another week to see if I save Christmas or not.

9. Ryman says:

….Crap. BadnikHunter is right.

Ray is really Sonic, who’s really Santa….This leads to only one logical explanation!

Tim is really Black Doom.

10. Tacos says:

Nice comic. Perfect for the spirit of Christmas. But who will save Christmas?!?
And the snow is nice. I don’t stay on one page long enough for it to add up enough at the bottom.

11. Bobipine says:

What’s the green thing in the sled, that looks like a mix of a bowling ball, gygias and kirby in the middle, probably just my imagination though. Anyway, looks like there is a promisingly happy ending in view, and am I the only one who get a jumpy scroll bar where the snow “stacks”?

12. Ratheronfire says:

I half-expected a joke about Santa playing as Lucas, since his first alternate costume is Claus.

13. TomX says:

NCG. By the way, I love the snow effect. Is that done in JavaScript?

14. Acgamer says:

Awesome comic! I love Christmas stuff. Can’t wait until next week! Oh, and in case I don’t get around to commenting next week, Merry Christmas!

Epic snow effect is epic.

15. Dry Bones says:

Haha, only one kid wants a PSP Go! That was my favorite part. Looking forward to next week’s comic for the exciting conclusion. Great stuff as usual!

And, as others have pointed out, the snow effect is very cool.

16. tustin2121 says:

Nice comic guys, can’t WAIT till next week now! πŸ˜›

The snow! It chooses a random direction to fall in and then it piles up on the bottom of my screen (probably unintentionally). If I weren’t so against webpage effects like this to begin with, I’d probably think this was cute and be hacking away to see how it’s done. As it were, I hate webpage effects, and I’m nitpicking about this one. It stops at the bottom of the window, which is not great for getting down the page… It’s not too bad I suppose, as it’s only a few flakes and not BLIZZARDing… oh and it least it stops when the page isn’t focuses… alright, I’ll stop nitpicking now!

17. TheGremp says:

Rising from my grave!

…Well, I was only in my grave for about 15 hours, as I discovered you guys late last night, and read through your entire archive of comics while listening to several hours of the podcast. My favorite comics would have to be “Wind Waker, Heart Breaker” and “Ray’s adventures in dating”. The final panel of each of those had me rofl’ing at 3:00 AM.

On a more related note, nice comic! Can’t wait for the continuation next week.

18. AlexM says:

Santa’s too nice. I would have given Billy the PSP-Go.

19. Chocolate_bob says:

I dunno Ray, changing Tim into Santa and reusing Santa from Last Minute Shopping… that’s pretty hefty image reuse. But I lol’d so it’s okay.

20. Kyzin says:

It was an alright comic and gives on it’s own and gives me hope for the conclusion. My favourite part of the whole thing are the falling snowflakes though.

21. Highwater Trousers says:

And Christmas was saved, thanks to Tim and Ray.
For they stumbled upon, old Saint Nick’s sleigh.
One was Santa and the other an elf.
No one was selfish, thinking of self.
And they went out to spread good Christmas cheer.
Finishing up, not one single jeer.
This random conclusion has now met its end.
Five cents would be nice, if you could lend.
My account will be banned and probably blocked.
The time I spent here, never was clocked.
But that is okay, for I now must say.
2P START! is the best, hip-hip-hooray!

Can’t wait for the conclusion of the comic! Just ignore my random rhyming here. Also, nice effect with the snow!

• Tim says:

You’ve been IP banned. Have a nice life.

jk.

• Burnflare says:

“Banned!” said Tim, a grin on his face.
His ways were not kindly, for I rest my case.
Ray slaved away, with sweat on his brow.
If his work was not perfect, Tim would have a cow.
But we all know why he did it, for it was clear to see,
Today Tim had not soaked in his pool of money.
But another reason he does it, another reason he must,
Is because Tim has to deal with people like us.
Yes, annoying site members, they burden him, you see.
Well, when I say “members,” I really mean me.
But I must stop now, for I’m all out of rhymes.
One more thing though; nice comic guys.

• D3vin says:

“Objection!” D3vin shouted, his face lit up with a grin
“Just because you have the upper hand, does not mean you’ll win.”
“May I point your eyes to the container marked ‘b’,
and with this piece of evidence, it will be all plain to see.
IT WAS YOU WHO DID IT! IT IS YOU WHO IS TO BLAME!
In this turnabout court, both sides can play this game.”
He held it aloft and it was plain to see,
It used to be a hat of the style of ‘Beanie’.
“It was used to gag the victim, and if its dna goes to be tested.
you will all see, that it is Tim ‘Achmed’ Harding, He is the one that will be bested.”
And now he turned to the jury, with one final plea.
“Look down into your hearts, Let Highwater Trousers go free”

• Highwater Trousers says:

B-b-banned?!! I think I just died a little bit inside. You know what? You are so not getting a Christmas e-card from me. Wait, “just kidding?” Oh, well in that case, er, Merry Christmas.

22. D3vin says:

For some reason, this reminds me of this commercial
I’d hate it if Santa shirked his duties so that I don’t get my Sega Genesis (Megadrive) for Christmas. I’d just have to call my Attack Pteranodon and have pay for his not-giving-me-stuff-that-I-Deserve-ness.
That would make a good Christmas special, “The Pteranodon that devoured Christmas” πŸ˜‰

23. Wyrm says:

I don’t understand this comic. What’s with the white dots floating on my screen and who’s ‘Santa’? You guys have really lost your touch, A– Would not read again.

24. TomX says:

Hey, that Random button IS fun πŸ™‚

25. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Eh, Decent Comic Guys. The rhyming was pretty clever, and the art looked nice, but there didn’t really seem to be a “joke” in this one. Then again, that’s probably the point, and it’ll all be wrapped up in Part 2.
Now this snow on the other hand is absolutely fantastic! Not only does it settle on the bottom of the screen and sometimes change directions, but it also snows less the farther down the page you are!

26. MooCowMama says:

The snow, it brings me great joy. πŸ™‚

27. randomperson says:

WHERES THE SNOW!

28. Slider64 says:

Meh

29. SonikkuWii says:

Alright, I guess it’s time to rise from my grave!
What shall I say to draw the podcast out…Hmm…Nah, I’m just kidding.
Aside from the general, “I’ve read all your comics,” and “I’m going through the backlog of podcasts,” I’d like to say that Ray, you are my personal favorite artist and one of my heroes. You create magnificent art, videos, music, etc. In fact, I have the Pixel Vision soundtrack on Media Player playing as I’m typing this and I’m in the process of convincing my parents to get me Jessica & The Silver Eclipse for Christmas.
Your work really inspires me (as I’m an artist too and in the process of getting my own webcomic up) and it’s really given me a wake up call recently, about how laxidasical my art has become. I cannot wait to hear your CD you said might be coming out next year, and I’m always excited when Wednesday rolls around to see your impressive art skills at work.
Keep up the great work and I’ll keep one reading along with every other Ray and Tim fan out there.
Oh, and Tim? You do good work too πŸ˜€

Hopefully I can get a Skype and/or Twitter soon since those are the best ways to connect with you guys. Is something wrong with getting a Facebook perchance?

30. Talduras says:

By the way, I just realized that not only have you guys not done another Tim & Ray comic since I started commenting, you also haven’t concluded the previous Tim & Ray comic. We must know if the Applecalypse is upon us, for the signs seem quite apparent.

31. CKcheeseboy says:

I hope there’s no character limit… (spoilered because it’s really long)
’Twas the night before the comic, and inside his house
Ray was still stirring, his hand on his mouse;
The details were hidden in the background with care,
In hopes that some readers would soon find them there;
As he was working, he longed for his bed,
While visions of “NCG’s” danced in his head;
And Tim in his beanie, with Sarah beside,
Had just settled down–until Lily cried.
When Ray with an e-mail was happily greeted,
He sprang to Safari to see who had tweeted.
Away to his page, he saw as it loaded,
“We want the comic!” an impatient fan goaded.
As Ray went back to work with a sigh,
“Maybe a preview will be enough to satisfy.
I’ll put just some vectors to quiet that jerk
And then get back to my actual work.”
With a little yawn and his blurry sight,
He knew in his gut he would be up all night.
As he drew with carpal-tunnel filled hands,
He began to curse Tim over his list of demands.
“Draw Tingle, draw Zelda, Luigi and Sonic!
Draw Kirby, draw Q*Bert, and Dr. Robotnik!
Also throw in the whole roster from Brawl!
And fifty-four panels to fit them all!
Trust me Ray, this one’s really funny!
Now I’m off to swim in my pool full of money.”
So in Illustrator Ray drew and drew,
But so far, was only at panel twenty-two.
He wanted to make it the best that he could,
Because, after all, his comic used to be good.
As he drew in more panels, and fixed up his hair,
Through the door his roommate came with a stare.
He was dressed in pajamas, from his head to his feet,
And he was rubbing his eyes, still half asleep.
As he walked over, he mumbled to Ray
“Haven’t you been working on this all day?”
Ray’s eyes were closing, his eyesight diminished.
But, he replied, “I must get this finished!”
His roommate looked and just shook his head,
Before turning around and going back to bed.
Ray went back to the comic, though the going was slow,
And his monitor encircled his head with its glow;
He drew Zelda’s face and Eggman, who’s tubby,
And made sure that everyone’s elbows were nubby.
He was in the home stretch, saving with every breath,
To lose it all now would be worse than death.
Time for the colors, with blue, green, and red,
Soon, Ray knew, he would be off to bed.
He spoke not a word as he finished everything,
And cleaned up the panels, saving it as a PNG.
After the many hours he had spent,
At long last, up on the website it went!
He sprang to his feet, right out of his chair,
And did a quick fist pump into the air.
And I heard him mumble, ere he turned off the light,
Happy comic to all, and to me, a good night!
32. Leirin says:

I’m loving the snow falling down ever-so slowly… wait, it’s not snow, it’s Tim’s dandruff!

33. This has to be one of the best webcomics I’ve seen in a while! Good show!
