The Origin Story

TimTechnical difficulties almost spoiled our big celebration, but we made it (better late than never)! A big thank you to Richard Aguirre for this awesome guest strip. His email came in at 4 AM, so I know he was working on it that late. While he and I collaborated on the idea for weeks, he still managed to add lots of nice details that were a surprise even to me (and I know Ray enjoyed a week off)! So, with 100 comics under our belt, where do we go from here? I guess we’ll just keep pumping them out, week after week, hopefully improving more and more over time! I know that some big changes are in store around here, I’m just not sure what they’ll be yet. Hope you’ll stick around for another 100 comics!

RayThat was fantastic, you two. A very fitting comic for number 100, but I am now seriously worried about losing my job to Richard…

Awesome comic! I love the little jokes in the news ticker. What does Ray think?

  2. Tacos says:

Simply amazing. Except it is rather strange to see you two in “real-life” instead of the Mii version

  3. Ali says:

Great jokes and ncog (Nice comic other guy). I just found them to be too realistic to be made fun of. Like at the end I wanted to laugh but looking at their not so wimpy faces stopped me from loling. Other than that great comic 4/5

(FYI: I said this before Ray’s blurb was up)

    Happy 100th comic guys!!
Heres hoping for another 100 comics!!

Good Comic, liked all the little jokes.

Does that header have all of the other 99 comics in the background?

Hi, this is my first comment on the site.
I’ve got to see all the comics in the archive and I have only one thing to say – I admire your work, Ray! It’s so clean and beautiful.
In other words, you shouldn’t be afraid of losing your job AT ALL.

    Now to the comic:
    It was great!
Something I noticed, was that Ray wore the same shirt all the time, except in Tim’s imaginary after-photo.
    One question:
How did the police manage to catch Sonic to give him the ticket?

Oh come on! This is basically guaranteeing you for Comment of the Week! Do you do this on purpose?! Someone has to be out there doing this, going under a different screen name every time and popping up with these “I read every comic” posts so he can always get Comment of the Week!

  9. tustin says:

In my tirade, I forgot about the comic. 😮

Anyhow, Great Comic! Perfect for the 100th. I read it very slow to make it last! I loved the little ticker stuff, and I love the realistic comic feel, especially Ray’s character (Tim looks a little fat in that last panel). It reminds me of Marvel Comics or something.

I also imagined Larry King’s lines in his funny, halting voice and it was beautiful! (that is Larry King right? I didn’t mix him up with someone else?)

Final comment: I have a feeling that Tim used some of his swimming pool money to pay off the editors to make him look much better than Ray, even down to the “Misunderstood Artist” Ray got.

Pac Man: “I’m done running from the ghosts of my past.” 😀

I agree. There should be a separate section in the podcast that mentions any “newcomers” to the site a la Brawl style, and then you can have comment of the week. That way, everyone is happy, and all of the oldies have a fair shot at comment of the week.

By the way, this is my first comment on the site….lol, JK.

And yeah, this comic had me in stitches. So many details!! I love how Ray’s ‘improvements’ is going from Dreamcast to Xbox360. And is that a megaman poster behind Ray in his old room?

If you listen to the previous podcast, I introduce a brand new segment that does just that.

Yeah, I just remembered, so I am having short term memory loss or something. I still think it would be cool to do it Brawl-style 🙂

Phew! Now that I’ve got that out of the way, it’s back to lurking from the shadows for me!

    NCRA!

  15. RedVinnie says:

omg, i just got in from school, and although i wanted this comic to be up yesterday, i think that next to tim’s (sorry its 2pstart fanboy-ism) this is the best guest comic yet!
so ill end with a heavy, ECG! (excellent comic guys!) but it gets a three out of five because ray doesnt have his light speed shoes, and tim doesnt have his beenie when hes on tv. and no nubby elbows!
btw, i have a brawl singles tourney tomorrow at my school ill either be using sonic or zss. id like some reccomendations on who out of those two i should use and why. i really want to win this guys!
p.s. like tim i play the guitar. i was wondering if you could get me the tab for super sonic racing…

  16. Dominator_101 says:

And is that a megaman poster behind Ray in his old room?

I believe it is a poster of Lace from Ray’s imaginary game Pixel Vision.

Wow, nice comic! Ray’s elbows aren’t nearly knubby enough, and yet he still won a knubby award… Just kidding. You did an awesome job Richard Aguirre.

Did Ray actually used to have a Mac Classic? Just wondering.

Well, I can’t wait for the 101th comic!

  17. ubuntun3rd says:

That was amazing! Do you guys really look that creepy in real life? I always wondered what you guys would look like in the comic if you had more detail, but this was just a little too much detail! 😉 No offence to Richard, though! He really did a great job on this, just like the one he did in October 2007. Only 1,237 more to go until comic 1337!

  18. MasterXell says:

Loved the 100th comic. Hopefully Tim you dont put Ray out on the streets. Today’s comic was beautifully drawn, and i enjoyed the origin story, maybe sometime down the road we can see a little more about the origin of you two.

ps. I believe this is my second comment, and as of today, I have caught up on all comics and podcast so far.

  19. Wow… this comic sucks… 2PStart used to be good, but now…

Ok, all kidding aside, great comic, and I call making comic # 1000!

    P.S. Monkey Ver Gina!

  20. Brawler08 says:

Man, Kevin telling me about your site seems like yesterday. I remember when I used to go to Raybobindustries to check the comic, way back in the day. Anyways keep up the good work guys!

  21. D3vin says:

This was worth exploding and wiping out half of Montana for, Man that guy is good. I say let’s give the job to him insead of Ray! It is kinda weird seeing you guys in a ‘realistic’ style…

I call doing either comic 150 or 200, Since I am the go-to guy for guest comics popping up out of nowhere.

I really liked the Swimming pool line, but hey, I coulda been fooled the same way, as bad Sonic games are bad!

  22. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Excellent comic, Richard! I’m happy to say that this comic has lived up to the hype of being the 100th. This is definitely the best guest comic I’ve seen! Anyway, keep up the great work, and I look forward to all of the upcoming comics!

  23. Hilarious, and I loved all the details like the ticker, the posters and the Mac (although Ray certainly never had a Classic).

  24. nintendogamer101 says:

Only four more comics to go and you’ll have been doing this for 2 years! I expect another giant celebration for that, too!

But now it’s time for me to be serious. I am proud to say that I have been reading the 2P START! web comic since it first began. I remember it all started on Tim’s old website called Play Wii. I came across it around the time before I got a Wii. So naturally, I was really excited about it and I was reading about it on the internet. I started to continually check Play Wii for updates until Tim eventually mentioned the 2P START! web comic. I checked it out, and that was it for me! Thanks guys for nearly two years of funny comics and podcasts! You guys rock!

And by the way, N100CG (Nice 100th Comic, Guys!).

  25. CKcheeseboy says:

Love it! The artwork is amazing, and it was certainly a good way to break into three digits.

    One question:
How did the police manage to catch Sonic to give him the ticket?

They laid down a spike strip.

  26. Ray says:

They laid down a spike strip.

Then they pointed, laughed and said “you’re too slow!

  27. RedVinnie says:

ahahahaha! ray i need you to help me out. im going to the forums and posting a brawl topic, so i need to you give me tips on howto play better.

  28. roadjcat says:

NCG! There was obviously no real punchline, it was just a bunch of small jokes. The swimming pool of money reference being the best.

EDIT: Hey wait a min why is this posted on “Wednesday”?

  29. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Oh, but I do have one question. Why is the word Lifeguard on the back of Ray’s shirt? Is this really the first time we’ve seen behind Ray in the comics?

  30. Tim says:

    Meta,
Ray had been lifeguarding for years when I first met him. I quickly remedied that problem…

  31. Dj75728 says:

Does this really even count? Afterall, you’ve had a couple of guest comics(including this one). I say you guys fail >_>

………..I kid! I kid!!! It’s great to see that you guys made it *tear* I always knew you could do it T_T ^_^ !!!

  32. ubuntun3rd says:

I just noticed that Tim is holding a cane in the part where he asks Ray to sign his “petition.” Awesome! Ray, you should draw him holding a cane from now on in your comics.

  33. Noodle says:

This comic used to be funny, like 99 or so issues ago.

Just kidding guys, kudos on 100 comics! VNCG

  37. mkava says:

Awesome comic guys. Congrats on the 100th comic. Been here since number 3, found it via VG Cats I believe.
Here’s to many more comics to come. 🙂

I’d love to see a wallpaper of Sonic being caught by the police.. via spike trap… with the police laughing and pointing. 😀

  38. FluffyPanda says:

    Meta,
Ray had been lifeguarding for years when I first met him. I quickly remedied that problem…

Surely you still have him standing next to your swimming pool of money though? Just in case you get pulled under by a strong Abe Lincoln current?

NCG, it manages to live up to Ray’s obsession for detail and sheer length. That’s saying something for a guest strip. I’m most impressed.

Hmm it looks to me Tustin that perhaps you were the one who wrote the comment and you were the one who deliberately replied to it. You are the mysterious comment stealer we have all been looking to find. Aren’t you? Also Tim and Ray think they have a civil community. My Mom told me not to do this but that is a fudging lie. OHHHHHH

  41. Ali says:

Hello my name is Richard and I’m new to 2P Start. I read every comic and I feel that… Oh pooey. Hehe, try to not notice the sentence above. Thank you

Tim is. Note that the text bubbles are color-coded.
    Ray = Red
    Tim = Blue
    Other guy = Gray

  44. Rokai says:

    Really good comic!
But don’t be afraid Ray, this guy can draw good but he can’t draw 2PSTART!.

In that case, the last panel is so much funnier 😀
And come to think of it, Ray’s face in the last panel looks like the old guy in the last panel of the Bad Company comic.

FYI, when I mentioned that, it was a reference to a Robot Chicken skit. I saw it on YouTube, but it has since been taken down. After Sonic ran over the spike strip, the one cop said “A spike strip? I mean, shouldn’t we have at least warned him first?”, to which the other cop replied “We could’ve…but we didn’t.”

Just letting you know since people might think the idea was stolen if somebody made the wallpaper.

    Really good comic!
But don’t be afraid Ray, this guy can draw good but he can’t draw 2PSTART!.

YES WE WANT THE KNUBBY ELBOWS!!!

  53. kingofthehut says:

I don’t get why everyone likes the comic so much. It might have been better but the people look way to realistic. It’s probably just not my style. Hopefully next weeks comic will be good. I need a good run of comics after these recent bad or so-so ones.
