Slow and Steady

TimAnother Zelda comic?!? I gotta say, I thoroughly enjoyed last week’s comic, to the point where that’s all I could think of. It had gorgeous artwork, a funny punchline, an alternate ending, it raked in the awards, and it was all part of an elaborate hoax perpetrated on our fans! Naturally, with my mind so fixated on the star of my favorite game (Wind Waker), another Zelda comic emerged. It’s short and silly (kind of like Toon Link), but again, I personally really enjoyed this one, and I hope you do to!

RayI think what I hated the most about doing this comic is being five minutes from finishing, only to have Tim say, “hey, wouldn’t it be funny if Link used his Wind Waker to change the direction of the wind in his favor to win the race?”
Thanks a lot, Tim.

It is funny, I think this should have came first and last weeks’ comic come after it…

Link in Mario and Sonic at the Olympic games? Lock-on technology? either that or someone used a Link mii…

Aww poor link, he’s so far behind, likely cause of those short legs. Also I just noticed the sweat stains lolz.

Now, wouldn’t it have been funny if he was wearing the Iron Boots.

and dear God! why why must NAVI plague the pages of this website, even if her wings are Tim and Ray o_o

  42. roadjcat says:

Also, ever notice that each game series has an awesome female character, and the games she is in are the best ones.

    1. Metroid: Samus
Samus is in all the Metroid games, hence why they are so awesome.

    2. Mario: Watt
Yes, that’s right the floating ball of electricity is more interesting than any of the Princesses. And just look at the game she was in: Paper Mario. I rest my case.

    3. Sonic – Rouge:
This ones a bit harder. The Sonic series has taken such a downward spiral, that the appearance of Rouge can only make them slightly better. Think of how bad Sonic ’06 would’ve been had Rouge not been in it.

    4. Zelda – Zelda:
Obvious, which game (to my knowledge XD) did Zelda appear the most in? Wind Waker. Coincidence?

    5. Street Fighter – Crimson Viper
I have no idea about that one, but I’d be surprised if I was wrong.

    6. Ace Attorney: Mia
Ever wonder why Apollo Justice is the worst and Trials and Tribulations is the best? Now you know. I would’ve loved to give this to Franziska, but although she’s the best character, she doesn’t have the effect I mentioned earlier.

Can you tell I had free time on my hands? XD

Ever wonder why Apollo Justice is the worst and Trials and Tribulations is the best? Now you know. I wouldā€™ve loved to give this to Franziska, but although sheā€™s the best character, she doesnā€™t have the effect I mentioned earlier.

    4. Well, Sheik was in OoT a lot, possibly more than Tetra in WW. Plus she was hardly in MM or LA at all, which are probably two of the best Zeldas. There’s also Midna from TP, but Zelda’s better than Midna.

    6. Whoa, whoa, what’s with the AJ hate? Is it just because it wasn’t Phoenix? I liked Apollo, Trucy was cool (Maya is OK, but I think I like Trucy better), and Klavier was just plain awesome. Ema vs. Gumshoe is kind of a toss-up, but I wouldn’t say AJ was the worst of the series (although I don’t know what I would pick since they all are pretty good; I can’t judge the 3rd one since I’m only on the 3rd case but it’s good so far). AJ definitely had the best intro case of the four, though.

Also, for #2, I think the Paper Mario series should count completely separate from the regular Mario series. And Watt was the best female? Although I can’t think of anyone better from the PM series…maybe Goombella since she could Tattle, but nobody really stands out to me from any of those games. I’d say TTYD is the best PM game, though.

Also, Pikmin has nobody and both of those games rock. Kirby doesn’t either to my knowledge. Fire Emblem has plenty; I’d say Mia from PoR is probably one of the coolest, but I’ve only played two of those games so I can’t make a judgment on which game is the best. And I know absolutely nothing about Star Fox except the fact that Krystal is in it. Pokemon is tough since the Pokemon can be either, but if you went for Gym leaders, I’m not sure since there’s a bunch of them and I don’t feel like figuring out which was the best.

As for non series/series where the girl is in most/all of the games, in Chrono Trigger, Ayla was awesome. But Marzipan from the Strong Bad games (or homestarrunner.com in general) is probably one of the least cool characters. Maybe you could say Cutesy/Sultry Buttons from Dangeresque 3, but I think Ep. 5 was the best.

Anyway, I think your theorem has a number of exceptions, mainly the Zelda series (no way are MM and LA not in the top Zelda games). And the Metroid series can’t count as evidence since Samus is in all of them (they can’t all be the best one). It might hold generally, but I don’t think it’s concrete.

Finally, you switched between colons and hyphens in your list. What’s up with that? šŸ˜›

  47. TheCakeIsALie94 says:

Hi Tim and Ray all the way from England! I’ve been reading your comics for quite a while now and listening to your podcasts for almost as long, and I have decided to ‘rise from my grave’. Looking forward to more great stuff in future! šŸ™‚

  48. roadjcat says:

Yeah, I honestly didn’t think anyone would agree with what I said, it was just something kinda funny I thought of, and tried to see how far I could go with it. I happen to not like the characters in AJ. I have no problem with Apollo, but Maya will always be better than Trucy, because with Maya comes Mia. Ema, though is much better than Gumshoe IMO, as Gumshoe bothered me with his idiocy. The characters in all the games are fine, but AJ’s cases weren’t very good IMO.

I wasn’t really serious with the whole list so, yeah Watt, just kinda funny.

As for Fire Emblem, I’d have to say Titania, but Marcia was really good in my latest playthrough and Elincia is awesome in RD.

  49. CKcheeseboy says:

As for Fire Emblem, Iā€™d have to say Titania, but Marcia was really good in my latest playthrough and Elincia is awesome in RD.

I’m not a huge fan of Titania, mostly because she’s too high a level at the beginning (so she gets like no EXP) and by the time everyone else is her level I’ve gotten to like them better. Marcia and Jill are cool because they can fly over stuff, but I haven’t gotten to use Elincia yet in PoR and I’m not gonna play RD until I beat that. I just like Mia because myrmidons/swordmasters = pure awesome.

  50. CKcheeseboy says:

Oh, and as for Maya, I think on her own (no Mia) Trucy is better, but if you factor in Mia, I’m not sure, since I haven’t finished the 3rd game yet and I know I actually play as Mia again at some point. I kinda like Gumshoe even though he is an idiot, but Ema was cool too. And I liked how all the cases got tied together at the end, even the first one. Plus, like I said, I think the first case in AJ is probably the best intro case of the four games, because I think it has the most thinking involved (the worst is certainly the 1st game’s…you present like 3 pieces of evidence and it’s over pretty much).

But like I said, all 4 games are great in the end. I just want more.

  51. zijjh says:

As for Fire Emblem, Iā€™d have to say Titania, but Marcia was really good in my latest playthrough and Elincia is awesome in RD.

Ok, I know everyone always judges Fire Emblem Characters on stats, but come on Mia, Titania and Marcia??? If we are going to stick solely to PoR then Illyana is by far the best character and the funniest. I really don’t get all the Illyana hate out there in Internet land.

Overall however the best Fire Emblem GIRL is a tie between Florina and Serra – Florina for stats and awsomeness, Serra for hilarity.

  52. DrOswald says:

Really 2pstart is going into the dump.

I’ll agree that the recent few comics are not my favorite, but to say the site isn’t good anymore is going a little far. For one thing, The podcasts are better than ever. Also, you have to remember that Tim and Ray, at only 113 comics, are still relatively inexperienced in making comics, especially when compared to long running sites like CAD and Penny Arcade, both of which have well in excess of 1000 comics. In addition, 2p start doesn’t fall back on the normal crutches of violence and profanity. They actually attempt to bring us clever humor on a consistent basis, which is far more difficult to execute. This means we can expect a few comic which are not that funny. Just because they have a few weeks that are not that great doesn’t mean that they have lost their touch.

  54. roadjcat says:

The first case of Trials and Tribulations is the best, and just like AJ had a main villian, so does T&T, but T&T’s is much better.

As for Illyana…really? I didn’t like her in any sense. She always looked like she was going to pass out and she wasn’t that good anyway. Callil was much better.

  55. CKcheeseboy says:

I can’t make a judgement on T&T yet, because I’m only halfway through, so no spoilers. I’m still trying to figure out what the heck is going on with the third case.

As for Illyanaā€¦really? I didnā€™t like her in any sense. She always looked like she was going to pass out and she wasnā€™t that good anyway. Callil was much better.

Yeah, Ilyana never really stood out to me. Callil comes too close to the end, so I don’t really have an attachment to her. They weren’t bad, but like I said, Mia is awesome because myrmidons/swordmasters in general are awesome. Her, Zihark, and Stefan are just plain cool. Also, I was only talking about PoR since the only other one I’ve played is like 8 chapters of SD.

And I like how the comments have turned into a convo on two games that have never even had a comic about them on 2P Start! In fact, have any of the characters from Fire Emblem even been in a Brawl comic? I can’t think of a time…
