How Original

RayFor Yuji Naka to go from making non-Sonic projects with memorable characters (such as Nights, Burning Rangers, Chu Chu Rocket, and Phantasy Star Online) to making this title… is a bit depressing to me. Is it a fun game? Yes. I suppose a couple of the five mini-games are fairly decent, but overall it feels hollow and empty.

Kind of like how it felt when Tim wasn’t around much during this comic…
Don’t leave me Tim… I can’t do this without you……
(even though I was vetoing your ideas?)

TimSo…tired…LILLYYYYY!!!

  1. Hollow and empty, like the box you put the Wiimote on.

Oh, and of course, FIRST! Unless someone posts before me. In which case I now look like an idiot.

  2. RedVinnie says:

ahem. FIRST! now that thats out of the way. did you say Phantasy Star Online, Ray? i dumped over 200 hours into that game offline. i never bought a hunters license. Im looking into getting phantasy star universe since its official, i jumped in, and got myself a 360 2 days ago. unfortunately it ran me a bit low on cash, so i own no games. only blockbuster rentals…..anyway, im rambling. i like the sheer simplicity of the comic, the idea, but yet its complicated. its a paradox. i say thats its an excellent comic guys (ray)!

  3. Matteron says:

lets c what other game uses empty jelly like characters…
    (4, 8, 13, 40)
oh hey look about 40 other games lol

  4. Madcow says:

The comic did not made me laugh, but i guess a comic does not need to do that everytime. Instead it gave me like a funny quote, that you can tell your friends once in a while, to make them grin.
Besides the joke, your graphics are impressive as always.
    Have a nice week.

  5. blaster says:

    Wootsiez! My first comment!
These jelly people means that the develop team think it’s too risky to make a real figure. (Which can be a massive failure)

  6. joonamo says:

Greetings from Finland! You asked for someone who has been reading from the 3rd comic to rise from a grave. Well, let’s double it. I’ve been reading since the 6th comic and have missed only one podcast.

So this is my RFYG comment. I really like the artwork and would love to see more wallpapers. The comic was great entertainment during my military service, but basic Nokia phone with Opera Mini is not exactly the optimal machine to read your comics.

Keep up the good work and good luck in finding a girlfriend.

PS. This comic used to be good 😉

  7. The Gastronomic Gamer says:

The game isn’t amazing… but the music is so addicting!

Anyway, I enjoyed the comic, but it didn’t make me smile like older 2P Start!s. It doesn’t feel like a joke that was come up with two people bouncing ideas off of each other. The longer it goes on, the more it feels like the death of 2P Start!. 😐

  8. Doopliss says:

This also symbolizes Tim leaving the show. While Ray tries with all his might to come up with topics about video games, Tim has his back turned, nurturing the baby. Ray’s trying to hide this fact by making himself blue and Tim red, the opposite of their normal colors, but I can see through it. It looks like recently, Ray has been expressing his true feelings through his webcomic. Don’t worry Ray, I understand your feelings.

  9. aghhdjgdjkfhgtahdugihila; says:

10th comment! Wooooooooo! Aren’t there green and yellow ones too?

  10. CKcheeseboy says:

First panel was OK (a bit wordy), but I liked the second panel because I didn’t see it coming. Good comic.

Also, I like the artwork, but this is the second week in a row with very simplistic characters (third if you include Mega Man because they were mostly sprites, although you did some editing on them). Boy and his Blob comic confirmed for next week? Or maybe Legendary Starfy.

And 5 yards for a false start on yellow, unless green is just slow.

10th comment! Wooooooooo! Aren’t there green and yellow ones too?

OK, so seriously, do you just never plan to log in from a different computer, or do you actually have your name memorized somehow? And what are your plans if your browser logs you out at some point?

  11. Nebula427 says:

I think red needs to stop talking and start running. He’s looking a little pudgy.

  12. Airknight says:

Is this a subtle hint of what Tim and Ray are doing for a halloween costume this year?

  13. freeplay says:

funny comic, and i had a dream about 2p start last night. i saw on twitter that you where doing the podcast, and then my mom came in and grounded me, strange. and btw i think i’m grave rising, i don’t remember.

  14. Tacos says:

Although I don’t know the game at all, the joke still works for anyone (except blind people… awkward…) so NCG.

  15. Bobipine says:

I guess that game, (whatever it is) is a rythm game in some way if I base myself on the audiosurf looking slope in the background…. with game’n’watch looking figures on it…. retro games are fun (Megaman 9, some remakes they did), but video games companies, please don’t start milking the concept

To side with the blue ”creature”, red’s right hand seems a little backed if he really don’t look at him…. of course he could be scratching….. something on his shiny body thing….

artwork is good, so is the joke, I just don’t fully get the reference

  16. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Decent comic… guy? Even Tim’s lack of a blurb makes it feel like he had little to do with this comic. 🙁 My biggest problem with the comic is that the two panels seem hardly connected, although the joke is each is pretty funny.

  17. Snifit says:

At first when I saw the title I thought this comic was going to be about the recent beliefs of webcomic plagiarism. Then I read it, realized I was wrong, and still laughed.
Not a fantastic comic but pretty funny, and I agree it has some nice artwork.

This also symbolizes Tim leaving the show. While Ray tries with all his might to come up with topics about video games, Tim has his back turned, nurturing the baby. I believe its the reverse. The blue figure clearly represents Tim. Who else but the writer of a comic would have so many words? This is a stunning portrayal of Tim’s many long winded discussions with Ray about the direction of the comic and Ray ignoring him and only adding small trivial comments of little to no significance. A man can only take so much and THAT is why Tim left the comic to pursue other activities, like having a daughter. Only then would Tim have someone he could talk to who did not have the ability to backtalk him.
    Tim, I feel for you.

  18. Daecious says:

I enjoyed both panels very much.I agree with madcow on the art, looks great.

  19. Ryman says:

And if you look real closely at the background of the two panels, you’ll see the third and fourth player, D3vin and I, racing for the goal. AKA, actually doing their job.

You see, Ray and Tim have become lazy…so lazy in fact, that we give them the web comics each week and Ray just puts it up for us. Just look at Ray, Tim is trying to talk to him, and Ray is just watching our race like he doesn’t exist.

Let’s face it, this comic use to be good…but D3vin and I made it great!

  20. roadjcat says:

I saw the preview of the comic on the homepage and noticed it was in space and I was like “Holy crap! Was that actually Ridley’s eye!?” but sadly no. Still a pretty funny comic though.

  21. TomX says:

Good comic. Not the best, but not the worst. Good art for sure. That’s all I got though. Try as I might, I can’t find any hidden significance in the red and blue characters.

Oh and I forgot to mention, I finished the Podcast archive about a month ago. Add me to the crazy list 🙂

  22. roadjcat says:

btw, I’m curious how anyone who listens to the podcast hadn’t heard of this game. The theme from this game was the only piece of music featured on the “unreleased game music” (I don’t remember the actual name) segment. Not only that, but the incredibly unoriginal characters are on the preview image of the “That’s so 2008 Edition” podcast.

Maybe I just remember weird things, or my memory was just refresh because I still heard more about this game later.

  23. roadjcat says:

Oh and I forgot to mention, I finished the Podcast archive about a month ago. Add me to the crazy list

Why!? I don’t get it. I’m the one that sits down and listens to the Podcast every Monday, freaking takes notes, and then suggests a Musical Misfit, but even I haven’t listened to all of them. I listened to maybe the first one and a couple in between and of course the current ones, but I don’t really want to hear them speculate about things that have already happened. I don’t get the appeal in that. But whatever floats your boat. XD

  24. Tim says:

roadjcat, i don’t like your avatar. Didn’t you have an Animal Crossing one before?

  25. roadjcat says:

roadjcat, i don’t like your avatar. Didn’t you have an Animal Crossing one before?

It’s just Deadpool. It’s not my fault the only picture of him from Ultimate Alliance 2 is rather creepy.

And I have had far more avatars than Animal Crossing. I’ve had the Deadpool one for a while so, I can change it.

  26. Tim says:

You don’t HAVE to change it. I’m just saying that it’s never felt like YOU to me. Every time I see it, I think, “Who is this commenting?” When people change their avatars, it usually takes a little while for me to adjust to it, but yours has never felt right. I guess it’s because you have a certain personality on the site that doesn’t scream ‘Deadpool’ to me.

  27. roadjcat says:

I guess it’s because you have a certain personality on the site that doesn’t scream ‘Deadpool’ to me.

Really? I think the randomness of Deadpool is very much like me. But I have no problem changing.

And I guess it’s pretty cool that I’ve been on this site long enough that people actual notice things like that.

  28. Ryman says:

You don’t HAVE to change it. I’m just saying that it’s never felt like YOU to me. I’m surprised Tim hasn’t commented on my lack of avatar. XD

  29. Wyrm says:

So it’s safe to blame Ray for this comic now yes?

    Shame Ray. Shame.

    I’ve listened to all of them….but then again, when I got here there were only like 3 of them….or 7, I can’t remember ^_^;

  31. roadjcat says:

    Shame Ray. Shame.

Are we all saying this now? Okay.

Shame on you Ray for not having Rouge in any of the comics!

Haha. Sorry. I had to do it.

How long has the calendar on the left side of the page been gone? XD

  33. Dark_Devin says:

A lot of games seem to be going this route when it comes to things like this. Maybe because its easier then trying to individualize characters or because its just a simple way to keep people playing without character switchs. Whatever the reason, this play off of the situation is hilarious, NCG!

  34. Tim says:

New episode of incredibly obvious things that I miss:

I think it’s been gone a couple months. It was deemed unnecessary and just takes up space.

  35. BadnikHunter says:

Gave me a chuckle, though it could have been a bit better. Dont know what about it isnt so good. The art is pretty good, though considering how simple the characters are its hard not to draw them good.

Stop with trying to find the symbolism in each comic. We all know that Ray and Tim probably werent trying to symbolize anything, but just thought it was a good idea. Lets stop trying to complicate things and enjoy the artwork and clever comedy this site gives us.

  37. Wyrm says:

Tim Bringing down the hammer on those things he deems useless, like comments which mysteriously disappear, those whom have been edited and getting rid of calenders.

That’s it! Blue represents all of the people who keep trying to overanalyze the comic, but Red represents everyone who doesn’t care so he has his back turned.

  39. Kyzin says:

Clever enough I thought it was funny even without knowing what the subject was, and that’s always a plus.

Same can be said about you. ZING!

We should make Ray spend more than a single night to make a comic.

  41. roadjcat says:

Wow. My avatar still hasn’t changed. It’s changed on the forum though. I know it takes a while, but I don’t remember it taking THIS long. XD

The ‘3’ adds interwebs flare to it.

I chuckled at the comic, while I may not be getting Let’s Tap, but it might be something my mom might get, since it sounds like something that might be fun for her.

Dang, I was just about to blatantly point it out for anybody who didn’t notice. I’m glad though because now I don’t need a Twitter to follow them.

And I’m so glad that Tim finally put up that thought-provoking and insightful blurb. 😛

Yeah I don’t know, it was something to do I guess. I often like listening to spoken word / talk radio or whatever in lieu of music sometimes. And besides, Tim and Ray ARE entertaining ;-). Plus now I understand a couple more long running jokes.

And I didn’t haven’t anything else to listen to at the time….

  63. DrOswald says:

Yeah, its kind of creepy. Its something about the eyes, and the angle of the neck. I can’t really place why. No matter though, I’m already used to it so it doesn’t bother me any more.

The comic wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that good either. I’ll give it a solid ok.

I don’t understand the references to the game (I’ve been paying attention to other games), but the comic is still funny!

  65. Zoltan says:

Wow, you can tell Ray had to cautiously and carefully get every little detail in those characters right to do justice to the great Yuji Naka exceptional character designs. Ray said he’d never make a Transformers comic because of all the detail that would have to be put in, but now having to emulate the work of the guy behind such gaming masterpieces as Shadow The Hedgehog and Sonic Riders, Ray can only do less work on anything he does next. I think I speak for all when I say: WALLPAPER PLZ!!!!

    PS: Transformers sucks.

  66. Zoltan says:

BTW, sorry for the double post but I’m not sure where to ask this, how do you make it so you can talk to Tim and Ray during one of there podcast through Skype? Do I have to leave some exceptionally creepy comment to get noticed here because I’ll do it!!!!

  68. Gadoink says:

Ehh, I wasn’t really a fan of this one. It was short, only two panels, and I didn’t really find the joke all that funny.

    Nevermind then.

Ignoring the fact that those without Twitter are not the poor souls, check the sidebar of the site. Also, I think the Facebook page (which I don’t think has been mentioned here; check Ray’s Twitter for a link in one of the updates) also had an update with the podcast time.

Also, you are still allowed to look at Ray’s Twitter even without an account, and you can even subscribe to it via RSS if you don’t feel like continually checking the page.

It’s also likely to be roughly the same time every week, so it’s not like it will suddenly be 12:30 on a Thursday and you won’t know because you don’t have Twitter. Just find out what time they usually record it, and check Ray’s Twitter some time that afternoon for specifics.

But the most important step is not triple posting 😛

You also wouldn’t be the first to get a Twitter account specifically for this purpose.

    Heh, yeah.
And I actually did >_> And I’m probably never going to use it.

    Oh, hush you.

OMFG, Devin’s avatar is soooo freaking creepy O.O_

It is? How is it so creepy?

Yeah, its kind of creepy. Its something about the eyes, and the angle of the neck. I can’t really place why. No matter though, I’m already used to it so it doesn’t bother me any more.
The comic wasn’t bad, but it wasn’t that good either. I’ll give it a solid ok.

It’s creepy because it really seriously looks like you used the only decent part of that picture as your avatar.

No, the whole picture was good. It would have looked awful small…
here it is (if you dare)

Wow, I always thought your avatar was a pedobear, not an otter.

(I still can’t believe I only found this site when I was looking for pictures of Layton…Ah the marvels of the internet…)

  79. Dontkillchic says:

Sorry for the double post, (it’s annoying how you feel the need to say more after you click the “post” button) but…

    LET’S TAP?

Do they even know what that means in a teenagers mind?

    Gah…

I’d find this uproarious if I couldn’t stop the Let’s Tap theme song from consuming three quarters of my brain’s processing power.
