No Musical Misfit? I believe this would’ve been a week for a pick from Ray, so I guess it really is true that Ray’s found someone to date. Must mean this has pushed all the video game music out of his head and filled it with love songs, like this one.

  2. The Gastronomic Gamer says:

I felt exactly the same way when I watched Coraline! I thought that maybe they were making it easier for the video game.

Oh, I also agree with Ray on the Tim’s Take. Sorry Tim, but it’s just not as funny when there’s one writer. The artwork was fine, but when you brainstorm by yourself, you settle for less than the best.

And I listened to the 45 minute up conversation since I saw Up yesterday and had to take notes about its immersion. You guys really helped me realize that although the animation is realistic, the inconsistencies take you out of the experience. Thanks.

    • Tim says:

The truth is, the writing is restricted to what I can do with the artwork. I couldn’t do anything funny with the artwork, because that would involve drawing different facial expressions, etc. So I did what I could with the minimal assets I had.

  3. OMGITSJAD says:

    -Ray….HAVE A GIRLFRIEND?! *gasp*
-Also, “I only put 49 stars on the flag cake!” “LALALALA” “TERRORISM!!!”
-Wait. Wait. Wait. What?! You can text while driving but you can’t talk on the phone in California? *facepalm*

  4. MiMGodfather says:

Congrats on the new lady in your life, Ray! My girlfriend loves me despite knowing how much of a dork I am… in fact she finds it endearing! Funny story…shortly after we started dating, she found a book in B&N called “I Love Geeks” And swears that everything it said was true (as far as the kind of geek it labeled me as). Seriously, she would just randomly ask me something like “What is ROM in a computer?” Then I would say what I could remember off the top of my head, then she’d say “…Yep, that’s right.” Anyway, apparently she enjoyed reading the book and it’s actually pretty funny so…I need to stop trying to sell a book here.

I know exactly what you guys are talking about in regards to all of the TSA rules because of terrorism and all of these stupid rules having to do with cellphones while driving. As soon as I read about the attempted bombing on the plane my first thought was: “Well I guess they’re going to make up even more rules that make no sense now.” And really, terrorism doesn’t scare me away from getting on a plane. The stupid airports make me not want to get on a plane. Cracks me up every time I watch the original Home Alone and see the family running like crazy through the airport. I question whether they could have really pulled that off at that day & time, but now it would NEVER happen.

One last thing…when you guys start ranting about things from time to time (like the rules/laws), I picture your cartoon selves standing there making hand & facial gestures much like Lewis Black. Just without all the F-bombs ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Gregjr94 says:

I don’t really think that the whole reason last weeks comic wasn’t up to the same standard was because Tim was the only that had anything to do with it. Oh it’s funny cause the ghosts are realizing they’ve been doing the same thing for 25 or so years and Pac-Man is oblivious to that, but it was more like the punch-line wasn’t strong enough and it didn’t knock out enough people.

Oh and way to go Ray!

  6. Kvb says:

Spirit Tracks gets better, Tim. Really.
I kid you not: One of the final dungeons of the game is my favorite dungeon in Zelda history. You probably won’t appreciate it as much as I do, though. I think I might’ve raised your expectations too high just now.

Really liked the podcast this week, guys! Started out a bit slow but the Black Doom Awards and everything after were great.

  7. If there’s one thing I’ve learned today it’s not to get into a car with Tim =] (j/k)

  8. D3vin says:

    Congrats on the Girlfriend! I hope you and “girl number two” have many happy years together! Now All I have to get one now… ;_;
I like this installment’s Creepy Comment.
Although the Black Doom Fan club should have been an even creepier comment.

Thank goodness I don’t have a driver’s licence. All of those years of playing Mario Kart would have caught up to me… *uses blue shell*

Tim, you are a inspiration to us all! We can park the car, drink, THEN drive!

  9. steve-ohs says:

Yay Creepy Comment! I forgot all about that comment, and was really confused at first when I heard my name.
Anyways great podcast! Really good rants going on in this one. Also congrats Ray with the girlfriend!

  10. roadjcat says:

Just three minor points this time:

    1. Yeah, Ray I experienced the rhyming flight attendant as well.
    2. I think the Wii is a fine system except for this year. I was looking at Nintendo Power’s nominations for Game of the Year, and I, no lie, picked Tales of Monkey Island. There was nothing that appealed to me this year.
    3. And Tim, are you sure you can text and drive in California? I think you originally could, but that has now been outlawed as well.
    4. Rouge (I really need to find a smoother way to work that in)

  11. Supersonic24 says:

Sorry, your War on Terror show on the podcast list redirected me to the Christmas Edition, so I’m reposting this for others to actually see.

Iโ€™m only a few minutes into the show, but thereโ€™s something I absolutely have to say! Your constant bashing of people who use the site on Christmas is starting to get annoying! At first it was funny, but not anymore at all. At least adknowledge the fact that there are also a very large number of people (including your fans) who arenโ€™t Christian! Iโ€™m sure Tim was only joking about changing or removing the site on Christmas, but as a proud Muslim, I just want some good old 2PSTART! any day of the year. This comic used to be good, now itโ€™s great! Donโ€™t get me wrong, I love this site and will be a fan until the day it has to go. Iโ€™m only a little peeved about the more than obvious religious preferance on the site during the holidays. Happy Holidays from me to everyone here, no matter what your celebrating!

  12. Supersonic24 says:

Great show, I laughed plenty of times throughout it. Funnily enough, the parts where you guys go wa off topic are the funniest to me! Speaking of laws though, I don’t get why it’s necessary to have your seat belt on at all! If I forget to put on my seat belt, I’m compromising my own safety, so what do the cops want from me? Also, I can talk on the phone while doing a speed run on Sonic Unleashed, so why should I have to text (WTF?) when I’m able to drive (I’m only 14 -_-)? Last note, you mispronounced manga Tim. It’s Mon-Guh, not Main-Guh. It’s a very (I’m still wondering why) common mistake though, so no biggy. Even the Barnes & Noble employees got it wrong.

    • TheNinjaMouse says:

As someone who spent a couple of years as a teen’s librarian working with manga, I’ve heard the word pronounced both ways and I think both are legitimate. Foreign words often take on different attributes as they’re assimilated into the English language, so it’s natural for the word “manga” to be anglicized into Main-Guh. In fact, I think many (if not most) languages have their own pronunciation of words that have their origins in another language, so English is not unique in that respect.

  13. Talduras says:

Wait a minute… training thing at the beginning of Metroid Prime 3? Where you keep something in the air by shooting it? I don’t remember anything like that. I know there were like button things to shoot (apparently this was to “calibrate” Samus’ arm cannon), and other tutorial things (like how to talk to people… hey that’s a new experience for the isolated Metroid crowd! …Don’t make fun of us! :*( ), but I don’t remember any “keep the [object] in the air” thing. Mayhaps I may have to fire up my Metroid Prime 3 copy again when I get home. At least I’ll get to hear the soothing ambiance of GFS Olympus again. Mmm… *Donk!* *Zzz…*

    • roadjcat says:

It wasn’t mandatory and it was kinda off to the side. I missed it my first playthrough as well.

      • Talduras says:

It’d have to be well hidden, because I’m an explorer type person. In the Metroid Prime series, I lived by the credo of “go everywhere, scan everything!” Thankfully, there were some nifty unlockables in the first few games that made it relatively worthwhile (extra endings for 100% complete scan log).

    • Ray says:

You’ll find it here at the 4:30 mark: YouTube

      • Talduras says:

That explains it. It was an implicit mini-game (implicit meaning I didn’t notice the blasted numbers pop up or what they meant! ha ha).

  14. Highwater Trousers says:

Well, congratulations Ray! And early/belated Happy Birthday Tim? My apologies, I can’t seem to remember.

    1. Fun podcast, though I’m surprised that there wasn’t that much talk about Christmas presents. Yes, there was some, but for some reason I expected more. Probably just me…

    2. War on Terrorism. Geez… Simply put, I love America and hate terrorists. Attacks do scare me, but they make me more angry. I’m not going to express my opinions, though I will say that this last attack was rather comical.

    3. Dumb California laws. Yes, there are plenty of those, but there are people out there who seem to lack common sense. I’m not saying that we need those laws, in fact, I hate these stupid laws. Let me put it this way, an electric sander from Home Depot states that you should NOT use it for oral hygiene. Not quite a law, but I don’t even want to know how that came about. This is a law though: You may not ride a bicycle in a swimming pool.

    4. Not to sound angry, really I’m not, I got a good laugh off of Amazon. Some company was selling copies of Sonic Unleased for over $11,000. Not quite deserving of a Black Doom Award, but no amount of words can describe how hard I was laughing.

Well, gread podcast and I hope everyone had great holidays. One question to everybody here: Does anyone make New Years Resolutions? I’ve been curious, since for some reason I haven’t heard much about anyone making them anymore.

    • CKcheeseboy says:

My resolution for 2010 is the same as 2009. 1440×900.

    • D3vin says:

My New Year’s revolution is spinning the opposite direction I usually do, Anticlockwise! ๐Ÿ˜‰

    • DrOswald says:

The no bicycles in the swimming pool law is legit. The aggregate effect of these kinds of stupid acts over taxes the emergency services, so more money must be spent on emergency services to cope with these sorts of things. (I know this because I used to be friends with an EMT.)

      Basically, outlawing stupidity saves money.

      • Dominator_101 says:

Wait, that’s a law? Umm… Well, I may not be posting for a while… At least, not until I reach a secure location… Or Canada…

  15. TheNinjaMouse says:

I think I’m going to try a bulleted comment for the first time:

    1. So…did you guys just give a BDA to terrorists for their uncreativity? That’s a new one.

    2. It sounds like California and Oregon both suffer from over-legislation. My condolences.

    3. Actually, I guess that’s it. Good podcast guys! Looking forward to another great year of 2P Start!

    • TheNinjaMouse says:

Ah, I almost forgot…congrats on the girlfriend Ray! Hope your relationship remains strong enough we’ll get to see a comic version of her soon. ๐Ÿ˜‰

  16. blaster says:

Wrap the feeling in two words : EPIC WIN

  17. Sorry, Tim, your information is outdated. Texting while driving has been banned for at least a year. Now if only they’d ban it in movie theaters, where it would also save lives. Namely, it would save the lives of those people I will kill because they are texting during the movie.

  18. Heavenly Spoon says:

So I’m like “screw this, I’ll stop listening to all the older podcasts for now and finally listen to the newest one” (because I’ve been doing that for quite a while now, it doesn’t help that you guys keep making new ones…) And although I’ve posted a comment before (asking for a wallpaper), I think I’ll rise from the grave in a decent way just to criticize Tim’s black doom.

Seriously, Tim, 2nd part of the railmap beaten is nowhere near the end of the game, I too felt the game to be rather lacking at that point, but then you discover the force gems concept (which are still way too weird a concept), better dungeons, more pretty awesome and original weapons, and so on, which really make up for it. There’s some fun hidden dungeons to be found, as well as some very nice minigames. The dungeons truly beat PH’s in my opinion, easily making it one of my favourite DS games. So yeah, you’ve beaten not even half the game and you’re criticizing it (whilst only praising it a little), ign much? ๐Ÿ˜›

Other than that, congrats on your Mac, Tim and congrats on your new girlfriend, Ray. Take care.

  19. Phos says:

I love how Ray is reviewing terrorists the same way he reviews Sonic games.

    • Apkinesis says:

      As do I, Phos ๐Ÿ˜›

NPG! The bit about driving regulations and laws was probably my favorite this week; I was listening to this episode over the car stereo with some of my family yesterday, and we all got a good laugh or two from that segment alone. The terrorism bit was pretty awesome too.

I’m very much liking Tim’s new mic — a notable improvement in quality. I hear Ray recently got his as well, so I’ll be looking forward to hearing 2P START Live HD next week ๐Ÿ˜€

Also, congrats Ray! Except now we need to find a new running gag about you now that you’re no longer single ๐Ÿ™‚

  20. Haniko says:

So Miley wasn’t just made up for that comic?

  21. Kvb says:

This doesn’t really have anything to do with the podcast, but I’ve been meaning to thank you guys for putting up a custom bookmark icon for the iPhone. I wish every site would get one, but my 2P Start bookmark looks a lot better now, at the very least.

  22. Wyrm says:

I liked this podcast until the terrorism part on Black Doom. Sorry guys, having lived in New York, some of those things I’m just very uncomfortable about people joking about. I understand you’re making fun of stupid terrorists, but you’re also talking about the deaths of people. =/

  23. TheLupineOne says:

After so many weeks, I’ve finally decided to rise from my grave. I’ve noticed a lot of people saying terrible things, but it doesn’t matter if you just skip that part of the podcast. Of course, you don’t do “podcast talk”, so not many people may now what I’m talking about. Keep up the work, and here’s hoping you be kind to D3vin without letting him take over.

  24. Talduras says:

Just a note that on the Podcast Archives page, clicking the link for this episode takes me to the previous episode. Though I should let you guys know.

  25. DrOswald says:

    1. I think the problem with drinking while driving is that people don’t keep track of how much they drink on a long trip and then get drunk on the road.

I agree that the open beer bottle/can law is stupid. They should be required to test you before they can give a ticket.

    2. I hate useless airport security laws.

    3. I didn’t pick up spirit tracks because I thought phantom hourglass wasn’t very good.

  26. FluffyPanda says:

Ray, did you have anything to do with this?
