a whole podcast of Black Doom

    Bad-[3 letter word meaning butt).

    Get it bad

    lol!

Too me a Sonic game is: Speed.
As long as it has a blue rodent going at 300+ mph it’s a Sonic game.
Maybe not a good one, but a Sonic game.
    And I liked Sonic R.

    A decent game-rating: 7 and up
A good game- 7.5 and up
A great game- 8 and up
An awesome game- 9 and up.

For the thing Roy said about DR: Survival mode.

“The Wii is played buy a bunch of 5 year olds- and Ray (and me)”

“Sounds like these guys should make a Sonic game”- And it’ll still be better then Sonic 06.

Captain Rainbow for Super Smash bros. 4!

    2P Start 9! Now in 8-bit!

    I have a laptop now!

THAT’S AN AWESOME REMIX RAY!!!! Can I get a link for that?

WTF!? I had a little tiny glimmer of hope cause I didn’t completely hate The Secret Rings, but now…..talking sword? Screw That. I wanna make something clear, Sonic cannot be Kingdom Hearts! I don’t even want it to be KH! *sigh*……..Et tu, Sega?

I heard that Sega bought the rights to the Three Little Pigs and Goldilocks. So keep your eyes peeled for those sequels! Sonic vs The Big Bad Wolf? C’mon, that’s awesome! But they’re probably gonna name The Big Bad Wolf “Fang” or something….oh, wait……

Knuckles should brandish an Axe, cause he’s a heavy character. And Shadow is gonna have one of these, but then he’ll get one of these as his upgrade.

  3. roadjcat says:

    Intro was pretty cool.

As for the Black Doom awards, now I feel a bit hypocritical for defending Wii Music when I think that Sonic and the Black Knight sounds really bad. Mainly just for the fact that it’ll be a hack ‘n’ slash. The talking sword is weird and the name is the epitome of unoriginal, but if the gameplay is decent then I think we’ll all live, but I don’t think it will be. Sonic’s main attack should be the homing attack of the spin dash, that, for me, is what works. I’m not a huge Sonic fan and I haven’t played that many games, but there’s only been a few I didn’t like.

I didn’t like Rush, for some reason, unbalanced difficulty I guess. And I didn’t like Sonic and the Secret Rings. I played like a few levels and then stopped…it was very annoying, I actually prefer Shadow the Hedgehog. I thought that the Sonic Adventure games were actually very good, and I’m one of the few that liked Heroes. All those games had tons of playable characters, but I think for the most part it worked.

Somehow I got conned into reserving Sonic Unleashed, but I think I’ll probably be transferring that reserve to Time Hollow or something, because the werewolf sections look really stupid.

I am, however looking forward to Chronicles, and if it actually gets decent ratings, I’ll pick it up.

As for Dead Rising, I have no interest whatsoever, but that’s just because it’s not my type of game, though their choices to make it accessible were a bit stupid. I really like Capcom because of Okami and the Ace Attorney series, and considering the latter, I’m surprised they were so quick to change the formula.

If we’re lucky, Capt. Rainbow will be voiced by this man…

I actually…..knew that. He mentioned it in the RP-Details forum.

Great podcast guys. Definitely one of my favorites. I’m really looking forward to seeing my comic on 2P START!

After hearing about Sonic and the Black Knight and Dead Rising: Chop til you drop, I couldn’t stop laughing. I feel sorry for Sonic, because I really want another good game from him that isn’t a handheld, but Sega just won’t stop and take a good long look at the series. I’m hoping that at least one of the three upcoming games is good, but I’m not crossing my fingers.

  8. steve-ohs says:

I was actually looking forwards to Sonic and the black knight. I liked Sonic and the Secret Rings, it wasn’t great, but it was the best console game they’ve done in a while. But a talking sword?!?! Thats just wrong. I was hoping with the sword and the ability to kill people, it would be a more serious game, but sword talking = doesn’t look good.
I hope its not bad, but Ill wait for reviews/impressions before I even consider almost buying it.

  9. Anon says:

    Sonic and Link are BFF!

First, Rush Adventure copies the boating.

    Then Unleashed copies the wolf

And now SatBK copies the whole sword thing.

Let’s just hope that Unleashed and BK are half as good as the series they are ripping off.

SatBK can also mean “Sonic and the Burger King.”

    One more thing.

    “Sonic and his Merry men”
    $20 thats the next one.

  10. roadjcat says:

The name makes me think of the character from Fire Emblem, so it’s a bit odd.

Also, I think have humans that aren’t weird looking like Eggman, is taking it too far.

  11. DrOswald says:

As I see it, this is the beginning of a brighter future for the Sonic franchise. Eventually Sonic Team will create a game so terrible that even the Sonic hardcore wont want it. Once the Sonic hardcore are disenchanted, there will be no one left to keep selling terrible Sonic games to.

Sega will then sell the rights to Sonic for $5 and a half eaten bagel. For 8 years or so the rights to Sonic will jump from company to company. Despite constant rumors or even official announcements, no one will make a Sonic game until the year 2018 when Sonic 4 will be announced for the Nintendo Dolphin (They will pretend that Sonic games stopped at 3.) It will be classic 2D Sonic style and thoroughly awesome.

Ray is a fine example of how this process is already in motion. The only question remaining is how low must the Sonic team go? Will Sonic and the Black Knight be the game that bursts the bubble, or will Sonic Team have to invent new, creative ways to suck? Only time will tell.

  12. Tim says:

    Metal_Link,
iTunes will show the image with the m4a version. Ray does great work with the images and it really enhances the podcast experience.

    hear-able = audible

And I think there are two problems with the audio. For starters, my mic seems to come in and out making some parts loud and some parts soft. I’m looking into getting a new mic to remedy that issue. The other problem is that Ray’s left earpiece on his headphones is likely broken. So when he’s editing the podcast he messes with the volume based on his broken headphones, not based on what everyone else will hear (this is a recent revelation). We’re on it though, we want professional-sounding podcasts as much as you do!

  13. Anon says:

Well, I actually think that SatBK are looking pretty good for a Sonic game.
    Analog control.
    some 2-D parts
Sword doesn’t look that bad yet.

    And with SU.
    the were-hog looks bearable.
It could have a 7.2 or over.

  14. D3vin says:

Chop till you drop sounds like a lumberjack simulator…

Oh I’m a lumberjack and I’m Okay, I sleep all night, I work all day!

  15. Lava says:

Hahah, Ray is practically weeping and laughing at the same time while listing off the features of the new Sonic game. (Which I completely understand.)

Oh man, what a disappointment. Couldn’t they like grab a random Sonic fan off the street and ask him to come up with some ideas??

  19. sheppy says:

Well, I will say this. Several action RPGs havbe featured talking weapons, like Dark Cloud. So that part doesn’t shoot down my hopes. The fact that they are doing this with Sonic is what is killing it for me.

Unleashed STILL looks good to me (since… let’s face it, werehog sequences look like old school brawlers and hardly anyone is making those anymore) but my problem with the Sonic stages is a common misconception with the Sonic series as a whole. The older games WEREN’T just running and running and running. This is something Sonic Rush screwed up on. Only about 10% of Sonic 1-4 were the fast speed sequences. Most of it was very methodocialy platforming. Sonic Unleashed seems to have brought the “reward sequences” of speed back… but the platforming core is missing.

All in all, I’d say I treat Sonic games like I do NOA announcements. They aren’t making Sonic and the Black Knight for me. I’m not their audience. And since I’m not their audience (and one of the many who felt Sonic and the Secret Rings was a tragic miss), I can’t really get offended or disappointed. For Sonic Unleashed, however… I am that audience. That thing just screams old school goodness.

    Quoted for truth.

We are not the main demographic for Sonic games anymore. SatSR and SatBK and its future sequel SatDQ are not made for us, they are made for the new Sonic fans, the demographic

  21. Anon says:

    Sonic and the DQ?

    Dairy Queen?

  22. roadjcat says:

    Dairy Queen?

That’s what I thought…I guess because BK is Burger King…

  23. D3vin says:

    Dairy Queen?

yes, Sonic and the McDonald’s didn’t really fit as an acronym…

    (SatMcD?)

  24. tustin says:

Wow!! Talk about starting out with a bang!! Dang that was a cool starting introduction. (BTW, I’m late. I finally got to listen to the podcast. 🙂 )

Hey! I liked Secret Rings. It was awesome, because you just ran and ran! And you just played as sonic.

A TALKING BLADE?!?!?! named ‘CALIBER?! As in “Ex-Caliber”?! GAG!!

I didn’t like the story book telling really. It was interesting, but I want to see prerendered things!

A slash — of the sword? What about Sonic’s normal attacks?

And now we have townfolk to talk to… And RPG elements… dress up… character switching… God… Okay, this game will suck.

When Sonic changes blades, it will be like the Keyblade in Kingdom Hearts – the same blade but different styles (Note: the Keyblade is awesome, but don’t steal it, Sonic Team!)

  25. tustin says:

Okay, Now I’ve read through the comments.

So Unleased and Dark Knight are two different games, done by two different teams? I see… hopefully Unleashed will be good. 🙂

That would be impossible! The Nintendo Dolphin would be incapable of playing 2d games because they scrapped the controller long ago for complete motion control and virtual reality (granted with various attachments to the VR headpiece to allow for greater realism in the “virtual” reality, therefore making the “virtual” part disappear. (The Dolphin Toaster, for the Cooking Unspecified-Parent series. (Woops! Politics!))

Of course, after Sonic 4, it’s back to getting worse and worse with each game, as they try and find a “good” formula – again – instead of sticking to the old formula.

  26. Lilguitarist says:

That was the best intro to a podcast ever. The remix was the best so far and the way Tim sounded scared was great. I’ve given up on sonic. Too bad I used to love it as a kid. I hate Sonic Team and Sega now. I could make a better game then they could.

  27. DrOswald says:

Oh, come on. If Nintendo ever scrapped 2D capabilities they would have to stop selling us the same games over and over again. How many times did you buy Super Mario World? Super Mario Bros. 3? The Legend Of Zelda: A Link to the Past? I’ve bought all of them 3 times. I am sure I will buy them again in the future. They’ll always have the “classics” because morons like me will buy it again so I don’t have to take 10 minutes to setup the SNES.

  28. lwelyk says:

I hate Sega. So very, very much. I’ve played Sonic fangames that are better than the tripe they release now.

  29. dr. mario says:

sonic unleashed will be epic I don’t know why ray thinks it won’t
