You guys really do sound like a gay couple when you argue…

Why don’t you guys take comments of the week from the podcast comments?

Ray, your vector work really does impress me.
I’ve tried vector art…It is hard. I can’t even trace with vectors.
AND YOU DO IT FROM SCRATCH!!!

And I can’t draw either, when I draw Sonic, people mistake it for “random anime character with spiky hair and big eyes”

    It’s pronounced Nii-che, not Niche.

Ray, U HAZ A FACEBOOK!!! LET ME FRIENDZ U!!!

And it’s not 360 or Wii necessarily. It’s a mystery (Wooohhhoooo)

One more thing- have any of you played PoP? Is it good?

The Dreamcast is awesome, one of my favorite systems ever. Dreamcast FTW!

    IMO Sonic 360>Shadow

    And Unleashed> All mentioned above.
    (‘cept Secret Rings> Werehog)

And I haven’t tried the 360 version and the Wii version is awesome, at least the day levels. I hope to try it soon. But I don’t like the idea of more collecting. (not a big fan of collecting)

Oh, one more thing have any of you guys heard of Hellfire-Commentaries? Watch it. Their like you only if Tim was also a Sonic junkie and both of you were British.

  2. D3vin says:

    HOLD IT!
I’d like to cross examine the witness

People who play the 360 are hardcore gamers, Sonic Unl. is not a hardcore game to them it is for kids and they think it sucks. People who play the Wii are Casual gamers, Sonic Unl. is not what they are used to playing and they think the ‘bad controls’ are just their fault because they suck so bad.

    Case closed.

Why don’t you guys take comments of the week from the podcast comments?

This. That is all. Time for me usual comments.

    1. Y’know to be quite honest, I’d like to hear one of the unedited podcasts, it may not be that boring. XD

    2. And Tim, I don’t know what exactly it takes to run this site, but I know I’d suck at it too. I can only do like basic HTML. XD

    3. Crazy Tom Nook face is oddest.

    4. I think I would’ve preferred Game and Watch to Left 4 Dead.

    5. Yeah, you do always end up making mistakes Ray, just look at the “Tom Crook” comic. XD Kidding, like always.

    6. It’s unfortunate that I didn’t know enough about G&W to nitpick…that was actually kinda fun…:D

    7. The comments were kinda weird? That’s a gigantic understatement.

    8. For once I felt like the normal one during those comments…

    9. And yes, Tim, lwelyk is going to hunt you down now that he knows your wife’s name.

    10. It’s nice to see that the knubby elbows were around before 2P START!

    11. If Tim said that your comics/site/whatever suck in the podcast, you’d just edit it. XD

    12. Ummm…what the heck are those games available to Silver Members?

    13. When you first started talking about your BDA Ray, this is what I wrote down “Yeah I know! 3.5! What the heck!?” That really struck me as odd.

    14. Okay, Shadow was not that bad. I don’t know why everyone thinks it’s so terrible. It’s like Metroid Prime Hunters, yeah, it’s a pretty bad Metroid game, but by itself, it’s not THAT bad.

    15. I myself made a topic on the forums about GS’s review of Unleashed. I’m pretty convinced that there’s a bias there. One that’s actually pretty obvious, and a large one.

    16. It’s weird how IGN reviewed the Wii one so well…I watched both video reviews and from where I was sitting I couldn’t see much of a difference, granted I hadn’t played the game, but could there really be such a difference to account for a 3 point difference?

    17. They all praise the Day stages so much, yet the like the Wii one better…why?

    18. I love Endless Ocean to death, but I find it very odd that such a game is getting worse reviews…

    19. Hey! No one suggested that musical misfit! XD But seriously, can we step away from that general…umm…era…I suppose. I mean I understand they’re supposed to be unheard of, but I’d like to hear some unheard of songs from newer games…

    20. The musical misfit though reminded me of the bootleg of a K.K. Slider song. XD

    That’s it for now. 🙂

  4. Anon says:

I’ve played one level of the 360 version

Comparing both Chun-nan’s, I think the Wii’s is better designed for Sonic.

  5. BulimicKoala says:

Did I spell Bulimic wrong? Because I was trying to say Bulimic Koala. Thanks for saying my comment on the podcast. Either google is messing with me or I am really really bad at spelling.

  6. BulimicKoala says:

You cant spell ignorance without ign.

  7. nintendogamer101 says:

If the Oil Panic comic is the Game Boy version, then why does it have the Game & Watch logo?

  8. roadjcat says:

If the Oil Panic comic is the Game Boy version, then why does it have the Game & Watch logo?

    w00t! Nitpicky…ness!

  9. sheppy says:

I like the pixel art better than the LCD. I still have my collection of Tiger Electronics LCDs somewhere (including Megaman 2) and LCD games were, well, crap. I remember fighting long and hard through Castlevania 2 on thoses. And it being MUCH harder to beat the game.

Actually, thinking of old school niche crap, remember those travel games that looked like they came in cassette tapes? They were small board games that had the pieces put in a compartment on the side and the board itself flipped out of the bottom. The pieces were magnetic. I recall I had a Double Dragon and a Scuba Attack themed one. I can’t be the only one who remembers these…

Anywho, onto the feedback. Liked the podcast but will say this… I halfway expected the black doom award to go to the animal crossing controversy right now. For those who don’t know, Nintendo sent out 14 copies of Animal Crossing DS to press members including Stephen Totilo. The copies had everything unlocked so the members of the press could see how easy it is to transfer data from DS to Wii. HOWEVER the cloned save Nintendo sent out to press had a racial slur in it. Nintendo, meanwhile, blamed wifi on how it got into the game. Funny stuff all around but I thought for SURE that would be the black doom.

  10. lwelyk says:

I probably could find both of you if I weren’t lazy and actually felt like doing the work involved. = P

  11. Tacos says:

I think Q-Bert and Birdo was the most oddball. By far. Yet still in my top 5.

And I’m super interested to see how Left 4 Dead leads into Oil Panic!
Oo, or Goomba vs Roomba was kinda out there.

Nice Game and Watch music in the background, except it kind of feels empty to me when its missing SSBB sound effects. ‘Imagines a 9 hammer connecting to Jigglypuff’

Well even if the comment was proved to not be the most oddball, the comments may be able to take the award.

And Ray’s art style is by far the most polished I read. Maybe Penny Arcade is around you, but as you said, they have office space. And when I say polished, I mean the comics never feel rushed, lazily done, etc… And this is definitely a good thing, since I can’t read anything if I don’t enjoy the art (just like I can’t listen to music if I don’t like the voice).

Ten bucks says its not 360, just to make this Black Doom invalid and used to solve any argument with Tim.

Shadow the Hedgehog is the $50 I want back the most. Because they only bought me 1 minute of entertainment (the intro) and an half an hour of torture. But what I will say about the low reviews its just “popular” to bash a Sonic game. People see the low reviews and go “LOL. SONIC FAILZ LOL” and go on with their day.

And I doubt Matt Cassamissima was smoking something. That’s just how he is.

  12. Dominator_101 says:

Nice podcast guys! I want to suggest Gerudo Valley for Musical misfits, but I don’t know if its quite obscure enough(I mean it was in brawl…) I would also like to suggest a more obscure song from MC Kids. It doesn’t have a very long loop, but I still think its a pretty cool song.

  13. BulimicKoala says:

I probably could find both of you if I weren’t lazy and actually felt like doing the work involved. = P

Lol. I am already in rays house.

  14. CKcheeseboy says:

I know! When I saw that I figured it would be a sure Black Doom Award winner.

  15. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Nice podcast guys! I’m going back to my long comments so that I can voice my thoughts like I used to.

First of all, your guys’ arguments are intense. 😛 I basically got, “Well, this was my idea.” “Oh yeah? Well, I disagree.” “Hmm… Maybe you’re right.” “Hahahahaha!” “Hahahahaha!”

I’ve really been wanting to get into all of that integrated media stuff, but there’s so many programs that I’d have to get, and it’d all cost so much. Hats off to you guys for having all of those.

Hmm… This business about Sonic Unleashed is rather strange. The only reason I’m actually getting it is because Ray said it was so good. Maybe I’ll rent the Wii version to see which one I personally think is better.

And nice Musical Misfits! As for me, I have quite a few.

First, the one that I posted back a while ago: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=4Mif0iOL4w8

Next, some of my favorite songs from a single game: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=sof3x3IVuf8&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZSCX0i8cHn0&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZQHYNx_UVDc&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pqYHhKc61y0&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kban8-_C4tA&feature=related

And now, some songs from another game that I really enjoyed:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IMCwcrm_rL8
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kqT-eWAWbHk&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jB3xGxJ3zN4&feature=related
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=x3mW3TlyxMQ&feature=related

Sorry for posting so many, but I couldn’t just pick one favorite song. 🙁 They’re all so great! 😀

  16. CKcheeseboy says:

Sorry for the double post, but I went back to read other comments and went over the edit time.

And this is definitely a good thing, since I can’t read anything if I don’t enjoy the art (just like I can’t listen to music if I don’t like the voice).
Ten bucks says its not 360, just to make this Black Doom invalid and used to solve any argument with Tim.

So I guess you don’t like regular books then? 😛
    Or xkcd.

And @the Metal Gear thing: I don’t think it necessarily is 360, because A. there’s not THAT much that it shares with 360 (pretty much the green), and B. they probably made it “so obvious” to throw everybody off. My bet is either DSi or (more likely) iPhone, because of the “i” (with the “!” just indicating Metal Gear). Not sure what the power button with the “!” indicates, but since pretty much everything has that power button, I don’t think the fact that it’s a power button means anything.

  17. deannnnnnnnnn says:

I love during the black doom award Ray says
    “it’s like night and day”
    when referencing Sonic unleashed.

I wonder if he is that cunning, or just has great time

anyway 1st time commenter, and love ur podcast.

  18. roadjcat says:

Wow. If Meta has all those Musical pieces, then I need to post some.

From a slightly annoying game, but the song is spiffy:

Or perhaps you prefer this version (I like the other better): http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FyFcSHHdIQE

Some more songs from the game I’m convinced has one of if not the best soundtrack ever:

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v0d1-Dr8Ec4

All the videos this person has posted:
    http://www.youtube.com/profile?user=Antelopgrl&view=videos

And now for one that I would actually deem a musical misfit: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-sG4Q028l0I

As for the ones before that one, they’re just really great songs from really great games. Some of them are well known, but the last one, I think it really epitomizes a Musical Misfit. It’s an awesome song from a game I don’t think a lot of people have played, or perhaps they just missed it during their playthrough.

  19. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Oh come on! I didn’t post nearly a third as much as that!

  20. roadjcat says:

Oh come on! I didn’t post nearly a third as much as that!

I know…things got a bit out of hand after I started. XD

  21. sheppy says:

I guess my music misfits. It’s not uber old or obscure. Basically it’s a track Mizaguchi (Lumines, Space Channel 5, Rez) helped create by the Genki Rockets. Which is odd since the Genki Rockets aren’t a group, just a communal creation label. Regardless…

  22. D3vin says:

HA! I love it when I am right, From Wikipedia itself

The added element of motion controls for the Werehog sections, as well as text-based hub worlds and better Werehog level design and camera system, were reasons cited for the higher review scores for the Wii version of the game.

Aside from the criticism of Werehog levels, some further aspects of the game were criticised. The quests that players must undertake in hub-towns were described as “inane” and “tedious”, where “figuring out what happens next involves aimlessly wandering through towns and speaking to citizens, only to discover that most of them don’t know what we’re looking for”.The story and overall tone of the game, including the new character Chip, were criticised, some remarking that it was too juvenile, or comparable to that of a Saturday morning cartoon. Some reviewers also felt that the voice acting for characters was poor.

That is probably why the good versions are rated down more, since the WiiS2 version didn’t have the same hub worlds…

In closing, Sonic is for kids, hub worlds are bad, Motion controls instantly make a bad game good.

To quote somebody that I can’t think of his name now:

Cry me a river, build me a bridge and get over it.

  23. CKcheeseboy says:

Oh, and a question I keep forgetting to ask Ray: obviously you think the 360 version of Unleashed is better than the Wii one (or so I gathered from your extremely subtle hints), but as far as the Wii version goes, is it still worth picking up for somebody who doesn’t have any intention on getting a 360? If you were going to discuss that in your reviews, feel free to ignore this, but I was just wondering.

  24. Lava says:

Hey Tim/Ray, I’m with ya on the whole Sonic rating thing, with the Wii and 360 versions having reversed scores or whatever.

Tell me what you think about this. Kirby Air Ride, reviewed by Matt Casamassina. 5.2!! I said the same thing you did when I saw that recently (while adding it to Kaboodle). Matt must have been smokin’ something! That game is a little weird, but it kinda kicks a little bit of BEHIND too.

I still have faith in Matt for the most part, but I’m going to be on my guard. It seems like the IGN Nintendo Team usually has it together at least.

P.S. You two should definitely set up a Kaboodle account. You can make cool lists, such as most wanted video games. You can then organize them by system and rate their priority. It’s sort of cool, and I need more friends on there to see what people are looking at…

  25. roadjcat says:

I’ll take a random guess and say you two use Audacity (alongside Skype), record yourselves, and then Ray edits them together. Yep, professional podcasting tools they be.

That’s practically what we do…and their podcast is ten times better than our “Fan Podcast” so I’m willing to bet that they do something different. Either that or Ray’s editing program is better than mine. Or he’s just better at it than me. Probably both. XD

  26. Ray says:

I use a combination of Skype + Quicktime Pro + SndSampler + Garageband. Oh, and don’t forget love.

Maybe I should track those things down…don’t want to usurp the actual podcast though…but yeah, like that would happen. XD

EDIT: Pfft. Never mind. I’m not paying for that. XD There goes the love part. 😀
