I have a black doom for this week. I’ve yet to play against either Tim or Ray on Live yet. I think DJ still hasn’t done the same. C’mon guys, face us.

  2. Kvb says:

Lace’s game is sounding a lot more interesting now! You’ve really thought up some cool little touches for the game. It sounds great!

Wait, what? Castle Crashers music as the Musical Misfit? The songs that “have been lost in the shuffle over time”?
Now I’m just confused. What is a Musical Misfit? Because I interpreted that phrase as “good, somewhat old (like at least a gaming generation) video game music that is no longer popular”.
So… It just means “Good video game music” after all?
I’m not complaining here. Just confused. Hope someone can clarify this for me.

Regardless of what the explanation will be, I’ll likely keep suggesting songs that fit the above description. Always rootin’ for the underdog.

The Podcast pic reminds me of Megaman…I know it’s the logo, but seeing it at the bottom just reminds me of Megaman.

I think, right now you should keep one page, you don’t really have enough comics to archive them by year.

    Tim, listening to Podcast! BLASPHEMY!

    Tim+Ray forever!

LACE IZ A GIRL! OMG! I thought she was a he.

    So…Lace is your…Mascot?

That flower thing sounds familiar. A blue hedgehog’s certain compact adventure.
In-fact the whole idea you have for Lace sounds a lot like Sonic continuity. There’s the comics and the game.

If I were going to compare Lace to another character, I’d say Viewtiful Joe.

Oh, you fight each boss 6 times. The first time before you get the powers. The 4 times in their respective areas. Then the final battle.

  4. Tacos says:

Stupid dishwashers. Their revolt is coming soon, I can feel it. Never trust robots.

A lot of web comics don’t have their most recent comic on the home page (CAD, VGCats, PA, etc…). Woah, you just mentioned Penny Arcade after I typed it. But I think in this case, it wouldn’t be stealing since it’s a common method. VGCats has the mini image, but not PA. I’d say choosing that method would be nice. Maybe have one panel as a preview so there’s still pretty pictures on the front, but not enough that would lead to mass-scrolling and then carpal tunnel syndrome.

I prefer the year method. The archives are well done, with the small picture and everything, but now with over 100 comics, that’s a lot of scrolling to get some of the bottom ones.

And you once again show that this isn’t live. If you check my best score, I’m now the leader of 2pstart.

  5. CKcheeseboy says:

KvB: Maybe it’s not lost over time, but lost in general. Like, time doesn’t matter, but general popularity does. So stuff like the Zelda theme won’t ever get picked because everybody knows it, but something that nobody knows (that’s good) will regardless of when the game it was featured in came out. I think.

  6. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Alright, here we go. I really hope this comment comes through.

I have to say, I really like the new format of reviews! It took me a bit to realize they were in alphabetical order. šŸ˜›

I am not in favor of a Penny Arcade style. It took me forever to actually find the comics. šŸ™ Although, the thing with the mini image might be a good idea.

As for the poll, I think it sounds pretty good. However, could you have a link to the bonus comics as well from there? That’s been a small problem I’ve had lately. And perhaps you should have a seperate area for all of the Pixel Vision Adventures, so they’d be easy to get to.

And with the sudden appearance of Hyper Fire, it makes me wonder what else Ray has made. “Alright, here’s my CD Jessica and the Silver Eclipse. Oh, and here’s my first CD Pixel Vision. Ah, and here’s my game Hyper Fire. Not to mention my cook book, autobiography, and blockbuster movie. Enjoy!” šŸ˜‰

I hadn’t realized that the comic was made in one night. Very impressive! Lace is a really cool character. She has a great design, and now she’s starting to develop a personality. If Pixel Vision ever becomes a game, I would be super happy. šŸ˜€

Tim, would you even reccommend Prince of Persia? I mean, you’ve given it three Black Doom Awards. However, that is a very dissapointing turn of events. I absolutely love cliff hangers in games, because it makes me excited for the next game. I mean, I also like extra levels to download, but the way that they’re using this to end the story is just ridiculous.

And that Musical Misfits was pretty cool! But I’m in the same boat as Kvb. The definition of what a Musical Misfit is seems to keep changing. Should we just recommend good gaming music?

As per usual, Nice Podcast Guys! This one was good and solid, though I’m not really sure why. Anyway, keep up the good work!

  7. roadjcat says:

    Okay note time.

    1. The intro sounded familiar, though I can’t place it…

    2. Tim, you stole my word (spiffy) when talking about the review page. XD

    3. If you ask me this seemed more like the argument edition than the real argument edition. XD

    4. You can divide the comics by years. That’d be fine, it’d make it easier to find things too.

    5. And you can do whatever you want with the front page, as long as you don’t totally kill it. šŸ™‚

    6. I just click on blog…I don’t bother scrolling through the comic.

    7. Was that de Blob music I heard in the background?

    8. I liked how during the Lame Show “segment” you didn’t talk about the Lame Show.

    9. I think I got an Internal Server Error this morning (at 6am) either that or the page just loaded really slowly, which is usually the case every 2 hours.

    10. Lace should break the fourth wall like Deadpool or the characters in the Paper Mario series.

    11. That’s alright, I don’t care about the PS3 anyway. XD

    12. Oh, any info on what the commenting incentives are yet?

    13. Y’know I just bought Prince of Persia today and I can’t really say that this podcast made me feel very good about it. I know I’ll enjoy it, but geez.

    14. And actually, I’ll probably end up buying the DLC, I’m like that.

    15. Yeah, that looks like a gatling gun that holds four grenades.

    16. Yes! My music selection was chosen! I was the only one who suggested one, but I don’t care!!! XD

Wait, what? Castle Crashers music as the Musical Misfit? The songs that ā€œhave been lost in the shuffle over timeā€?

Soā€¦ It just means ā€œGood video game musicā€ after all?

I just assumed it was a song that was relatively unheard.

  8. roadjcat says:

Oh sorry for double posting, but:

  9. roadjcat says:

Sorry for all the posts one after another, but I think this will be my suggestion for Musical Misfits this week: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8wIC-9YaOjI

  10. sheppy says:

Actually, I didn’t expect you guys to know about the XMB states on the PS3. It’s really one of those things you have to own one to ever see. It does, however, go a bit farther than Wii’s version. Like on the Wii, it shows up on the main channel with the iconography. Well, the XMB doesn’t really have channels so it literally loads a huge splash screen and a short animated clip.

If you’re really curious about the XMB (I love how soooo much stuff is packed and easy to find) here’s an okay walkthrough. He doesn’t go in depth and seems more star struck by the XMB to really mention any of the bad parts. Plus, the guy didn’t format his SD card to PS3 default standards and wonders why PS3 doesn’t find audio in it’s default folder.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_epsZDy_Qrw

As for whether you guys get a PS3 or not, doesn’t really bother me. Let’s put it this way. IF you get a PS3 just so you can shut up loudmouth bashers (like a certain shep I know), your view is tainted on it. You’ll hate it to no end and go on hating it. If you eventually buy a PS3 because you have genuine interest in a PS3, you’ll have a much better time of it. So get one when you genuinely want one.

Also, in regards to the guns in Gears, more than likely you nailed it. Balance issues on the grenade launcher probably lead to that decision. However in regards to the sniper rifle, a single shot bolt action rifle is STILL the preferred sniper rifle.

  11. Ray says:

I have a black doom for this week. Iā€™ve yet to play against either Tim or Ray on Live yet. I think DJ still hasnā€™t done the same. Cā€™mon guys, face us.

I’m not trying to avoid you guys, I swear! I’ve just been busy…

The Podcast pic reminds me of Megamanā€¦I know itā€™s the logo, but seeing it at the bottom just reminds me of Megaman.

Bingo! Pixel Vision stuff will probably be full of little throw-backs to games we fell in love with. That lonely helmet on the title screen of Mega Man IV is one of them.

That flower thing sounds familiar. A blue hedgehogā€™s certain compact adventure.

Only done once, I believe, in Sonic CD. But the “flower” idea isn’t a sealed deal yet. It’ll probably be something a little more original.

And you once again show that this isnā€™t live. If you check my best score, Iā€™m now the leader of 2pstart.

For some reason there were a ton of high scores made just after we got done with the podcast….

    7. Was that de Blob music I heard in the background?

Yes. It was a secret representation of a fresh coat of paint for our site.

    12. Oh, any info on what the commenting incentives are yet?

Not yet. Tim’s still working on that, I believe.

Oh, by the way, have you two tried any co-op games yet? I hear both Castle Crashers and Gears of War 2 have some really strong co-op modes.

Yes, I’ve gone through all of Gears of War 2 on co-op, as well as tried out Resident Evil 5 demo with it. But ironically, Tim and I don’t share any of the same games….

Oh, well you both should get Castle Crashers. XD

  13. igorponweed says:

On PoP, I can’t grow to like it. Do you know why? Everytime I beat a level, Elika won’t stop spinning! The game has froze many times, and the ground dissapears a lot!

  14. Moonjuice7 says:

Great Podcast Guys! Is there going to be an actual poll, or are we just going to post our responses right here? I vote we do the archives by year, and am undecided on the front page issue. If you remove the full size comic, there needs to be more blogposts on the front page (like five or seven instead of three.) For the next musical misfits, i reccomend Clash on the big bridge from Final Fantasy 5.

For some reason it didn’t post above.

  16. Kvb says:

Well, I guess I’ll never quite understand the true nature of the Musical Misfits. But, as I said, I am going to keep suggesting songs that fit my take on the segment. Like, right now! I got my suggestion played only a week ago, but I’m really full of songs to suggest, and I can’t stand the wait!

For next week, I’d like to suggest the Hideout Helm Countdown from Donkey Kong 64.
    http://www.megaupload.com/?d=VBVLOHOB
I uploaded the MP3 I have for you guys, but you know how file hosting sites are… So here’s a backup YouTube link, just in case:
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yC4TGcseAts&feature=PlayList&p=48177A242E1888C7&index=28

  17. Kvb says:

Hm, looks like Moonjuice7 beat me to the punch in recommending a Musical Misfit, while I was looking for the mp3 file online.

In that case, I take back my request. I’ll save it for a few weeks later. šŸ™‚

  18. D3vin says:

I think the musical misfit fit as such because it is an indie game for a download service that not everyone has. Even though it doesn’t fit the “falling through the cracks of time thing”

  19. Anon says:

    Since everyone is making suggestions…

For internet loot; youtube Brentalfloss. He has some great stuff on his page (eg: Megaman 2 with lyrics)

  20. CKcheeseboy says:

Oh, and I don’t think anybody else mentioned this yet, but roadjcat, the intro thing was from Super Mario World.

  21. CKcheeseboy says:

Also, on the main page issue: I like how it’s on the main page, but if it’s too much of a strain on the web site, you could move it.

Here’s an idea: instead of a mini-image from the comic, the link can be the logo since that (ideally) changes every week to match the theme of the comic anyway.

    Do you have a PS3?

  23. A podcast so nice I listened to it twice =]

    a) The new review section design is nice guys! I particularly like how Mega Man 9 has all three systemā€™s DLC/online service logos on the case. Although, why does it have to be a Wii case? Why not a 360 case? Why not a PS3 case? Why all the PS3 hate? (kidding; I donā€™t have one either). Just a thought; what if the MM9 case were actually an NES style case, a la Capcomā€™s press kits? Obviously you just finished working on it, so, no pressure.

    b) If youā€™re up for more reader suggestions, I think it would be interesting if on the main page it was actually just the new comic logo and then you click on it to load up the comic (as opposed to mini-images which may or may not be represented on a site that rhymes with Phlegmy Barmaid; is there some PA aversion Iā€™m unaware of?). Though, I have the Comic, Blog, and Forum bookmarked separately so thatā€™s how I manage.

    c) As for the archives, my preference is all on a single page. Other comic sites have wonky archive systems that make it difficult for me to pinpoint a specific comic when I suddenly have the urge to go back and find one. But I guess if any site gets enough years under their belt it only makes sense.

    d) Hyperfire is full of win! (and deathā€¦)

    e) Enter the Pixels: I think either way, the first comic was bound to be a little awkward. I think once it catches on and gets more developed great things will happen for Lace. Looking forward to it!

    f) DLC endings? Yeah, worst idea ever. Imagine that with games that have multiple endings? ugh.

    g) And lastly, whereā€™s the best place for Musical Misfit suggestions? If itā€™s right here, then Iā€™m going to put a vote in for this one: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FeBg19CFTPs

  24. Also, the Castle Crashers song was a good pick. Even though I’ve played all the stages I still didn’t recognize the song.

  25. But I guess if any site gets enough years under their belt it only makes sense.

“… to organize the archives by year” is what I meant to say.

  26. roadjcat says:

Also, the Castle Crashers song was a good pick. Even though Iā€™ve played all the stages I still didnā€™t recognize the song.

It’s called Winter Bliss. Take a wild guess at the stage it plays in. šŸ™‚

  27. roadjcat says:

Actually, I’ve got another Musical Misfit. And I think this really fits the bill as it’s so unknown that I was the one that I had to record the song and upload it.

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RMLwx4m0Uik

  28. ubuntun3rd says:

Ray, I think you need to redo the archive icons. Even if you keep them in a long list, you should at least change them to png’s with transparency. Right now, they’re jpegs with white boxes around. Personally, I would prefer them to be categorized by year, though.

Also, I think your site would look nice with a simple, clean splash page with nice, large rounded boxes that show

    1. A preview of the latest comic (links to comic)
    2. A blog icon (links to blog)
    3. A podcast icon (links to podcast)
    4. A store icon (links to store)

Then, below there would be some text for the reviews, feed, forum, contact, and extras. Yes, I think the reviews deserve their own page.
