Ray (or Tim, if he knows) can you tell us who wrote the music for trivia for you?

Yes! Second mention on the podcast, and I didn’t even have to win comment of the week!

Hahaha. Funny that Brawl+ gets a black doom. We have been talking about it since Friday in the forum.

  3. MetaRidleyR27 says:

Argh! I need to get an SD card reader! I want those Brawl textures so much (not to mention the infinite replays and such). Oh, and thanks for the TMNT Squirtle screenshot, Ray. 🙂

“WISE FWOM YOUR GWAVE!” I never get tired of that part.

The BDAs were pretty good this week. I would hate it if Brawl+ became the norm for tournaments. It’s weird that Nintendo is nailing the texture hackers, and not those guys. Tim’s BDA about Punch Out was pretty funny. It’s pretty ridiculous that they’ve realeased so little information about the game this close to release. I’m a bit iffy about it, and I think I’ll wait for some reviews before buying it.

Woah! I think I actually remember seeing that dot! I had always assumed that it was a speck of dirt on my screen or something. Anyway, this was a pretty short podcast, but still pretty good. So, Nice Podcast Guys!

Nice comic guys, it was pretty funny how you mentioned the Wii Motion + coming out before Wii Sports Resort. But what I think is funnier is what GameStop did It’s not photshopped, I saw it while it was still like that.

Also I’ve been adding Texture Hacks to my Brawl since the SD Loader codes were made, I have 109 textures made by Stack Smash, Kittycorp, and some from the ]EE[ (Syntax Error) patch that was just released by Stack Smash. I would love to see you start doing them yourself Ray. It’d be nice to have a Ray vs. Tim fight. 😛

But to answer your question about your second Black Doom Award Ray. Mostly the reason why Nintendo is sending Cease and Desist Letters/E-Mails is because of copyright laws concerning the textures. But since they’re not selling the files for profit, there’s really no reason to stop them.

Also, I like Brawl+, it’s not as “stupid” as the hardcore Brawl fans say it is. Mostly it is a set of codes that changes the Gravity, Hitstun, Shieldstun, and various other things to balance the game more, and have the “fast paced” action that Melee once had. Sure it probably came into consideration from Melee elitists, but there’s nothing wrong with Melee. (Other than having to deal with tap jump in my opinion. :P)

Congratulations to the person who got the free shirt! 😀

I vote anyone who still insists on claiming “FIRST” in their post have all street cred revoked immediately and must beat Michael Jackson in a dance competition before they are ever allowed to be the first poster in a thread again EVER!

I’m seriously running out of things to say. I still enjoy the podcast, very much so, but my notes are getting really short…anyway:

    1. That intro sounded so familiar and it’s going to kill me…

    2. Uh…okay Ronald McDonald isn’t a video game character…but Venom’s okay?

    3. The Conduit uses Wii Motion + and it comes out in June. I’d bet that’s their motivation.

    4. But wait, does Motion + still come with Resort because that was one of my major reasons for buying it…

    5. Excuse me, but I believe Nintendo is also working on the new Endless Ocean, that’s what is taking up all their time because Endless Ocean has such a huge fanbase that they know they need to perfect the game with Arika to prevent a riot. They don’t have time for trivial things like Punch-Out.

    6. Okay, nothing against that particular musical misfit, but I’m just not a fan of GB and some GBA music. I just don’t like the way it sounds. And save a couple songs, I don’t even like the Metroid Fusion soundtrack.

    7. Rouge (I really have to start finding a way to work that in more smoothly)

  9. MetaRidleyR27 says:

    1. That intro sounded so familiar and it’s going to kill me…

It’s the music that plays when Resetti shows up.

  10. Ray says:

Ray (or Tim, if he knows) can you tell us who wrote the music for trivia for you?

    Sorry… can’t help you there.

Thanks for your comments, Napman1 – just remember, I’m only BDA’ing those who try to push Brawl+ as the true Brawl at tournaments.

Oh, and is that Mr. L for the Podcast image?

    Yes.

    2. Uh…okay Ronald McDonald isn’t a video game character…but Venom’s okay?

    No, never said that.

    4. But wait, does Motion + still come with Resort because that was one of my major reasons for buying it…

Every copy will be bundled with it.

CRAP! For a second I thought, “Maybe Super Magnetic Neo… Naaaah!”

  12. igorpwnweed says:

DOUBLE POST ATTACK!!! I have to disagree with you on Punch-Out!!!. I’m not confident in the game, but looks like it controls better than Wii Boxing. I’ll wait for reviews anyway.

  13. BadnikHunter says:

I won the contest. WOAH! Thats awesome! My name will still be going in the contest section right?

  14. It took me 20 years just to get past Bald Bull the first time around. At that rate, if I get the new PunchOut I’ll be hearing his laugh again until I’m in my 40s.

  15. Napman1 says:

  17. tustin2121 says:

Oh yeah, and that was the latest entry, by the way.

    Great Podcast Guys. 🙂

I was always fascinated at homebrew stuff. I’ve done a few neat things on my DS, but I don’t think I want to hack my Wii, especially considering the great steps Nintendo is taking to lock the thing down from homebrewers. It reminds me of Microsoft’s Vista, which encodes everything it does, even to itself, so that Microsoft can sell it as a “safe” platform for companies to play their copyrighted media on. Hm… now if only Nintendo was doing this for the same reason – to allow movie playback…

Oh yes, and we all creep around the underbelly of the internet from time to time, Ray. Not that I go there often at all, but I was scared when I heard they were bringing PirateBay’s runners up on charges. I went there once or twice for some things, though usually what I found were bad files…

  18. ultimateDK says:

I’m gonna have to get on that homebrew channel…it sounds awesome, I just never filed it out of the back of my mind.

And thanks for brightening my day by picking my musical misfit! ^_^

  21. GX Echidna says:

Here’s my Anti-Black Doom (so would it be my White Salvation?)

I disagree with your statements on Wii Motion Plus, Ray. I don’t think that there’s a huge problem with the peripheral coming out early, even though it doesn’t come out with a first party game. There will still be games for it, just not first party. As for delaying Wii Sports Resort, why are you actually surprised that Nintendo is delaying a game? They’ve been doing that for years. Heck, the Wii has been the worst generation of delays. Best I can say is that there has to be a good reason for the delay (even if it’s something that we as gamers would find trivial such as marketing).

Wait, Tim. You really believe that it is necessary for the Zapper and Wheel to be bundled with software? You’re talking about molded plastic. Molded plastic that works with every game. You could literally stick the remote in the Wheel and play Wario Land in it. You could play Metroid Prime 3 with the Zapper (for the most part)! And what of third parties that have been selling those things long before Nintendo released their versions, and without software!

Now, the Motion Plus is not the Wheel or Zapper. You’re average Joe off the street will understand what the Zapper and Wheel are meant to do, but all he’ll see is a small white box when you try to sell him a Motion Plus. Motion Plus will need software when it comes out, but the people who will be buying it pre-Wii Sports Resort will not be the mainstream. It will be the educated (for-lack-of-a-better-word) “hardcore” gamer who has been following the device since it’s reveal. And knowing Nintendo’s marketing, no one outside of gaming enthusiasts will know what Motion Plus is until they can call it “that Wii Sports Resort plug.”

Finally, I see no reason why Punch-Out!! needs Motion Plus. I’m sorry, but as great as I think the device is, it’s not the blanket instant-awesome patch for all future Wii games. Not only will it have no influence on the Nunchuck’s motion control at all, it would completely change what Punch-Out!! is. It sounds like you just want a good boxing game, Tim, but Punch-Out!! is what it is, a game that is built off of very digital controls and pattern recognition.

Oh, and don’t act like the lack of information only applies to Punch-Out!! Nintendo has no transparency anymore. How much do we actually know about Wii Sports Resort? What about the any of their line-up through the end of the year? What New Play Style games will be out next? They don’t even tell us what Shop Channel games are coming up. We don’t know anything because Nintendo’s policy is to shut off the flow of information.

Come on, guys. Get off the negativity express (which I hope is not driven by Link). Skepticism is a good thing to have, but you’re flipping out over slight fears, behavioral patterns most of us have gotten used to by now, and logical annoyances that don’t really affect anyone negatively.

Oh, and yes, the Nintendo Cease and Desists are complete bull; however, GTA Hot Coffee flipped the console-maker’s perception of the modding community on it’s head. If Fox News ever found an inappropriate modded Brawl screen capture or video, do you think they’re going to blame hackers or Nintendo?

  22. GX Echidna says:

P.S., For the love of god, no one please quote my whole post above.

And it is for that reason that it is just as hard (for me) to get excited about PunchOut as it is about Nintendo in general these days. I’ve used the Wii for maybe 5 hours grand total this year. Why? I got an XBox in January. And I’ve been pro-Nintendo and anti-MS since November 2001.

I don’t see it as negativity for negativity’s sake; I see it as genuine concern about one of many of Nintendo’s quirky business practices. Not concern about Nintendo being on it’s way to failure, rather, concern that there could be a future where I just don’t care about what they’re doing anymore.

Point taken. I certainly am not defending Nintendo for their current business strategy, but I just think that, in the context, Tim directed too much towards Punch-Out!! without acknowledging the overall state of Nintendo’s strategies.

  25. sheppy says:

The overall state of Nintendo’s Strategies, as far as NOA is concerned, is downright pathetic. I mean I think it was pretty damning of the company as a whole when, during E3 2008, Skeletor… erm, I mean Cammie was asked on how well she thinks Rhythm Heaven will do and she responded “We try not to pay attention to our competitors products and focus instead on our own market.” That right there.

Nintendo of Japan is a company you can believe in. They know what they’re doing. Appealing to people on all sides of the spectrum and actually ADVERTISING to them too. Nintendo of America? Pathetic. Tragically pathetic. And the saddest part is despite all their failings, they have legions upon legions of idiots ready to fight and die if anyone should ever question the great NOA.

  26. roadjcat says:

they have legions upon legions of idiots ready to fight and die if anyone should ever question the great NOA.

I was one of them. I love Nintendo to death, but come on…really? Some announcements would be nice. Would it kill you to spill some info on something small like Endless Ocean?

In an interview with Reggie Fils-Aime for GameTrailers, he pretty much sidestepped every question. Mainly because there was nothing to talk about because not much was in development that had been announced, so he was instead asked if new announcements were coming, but Reggie said to hold off until E3.

I’ll be anticipating E3 like always, and I can’t wait to see what they have up their sleeve. I got about 3 or 4 games that were announced last year, but honestly do something before then. XD

  27. zijjh says:

Ok, Nintendo’s basic marketing “strategy” at this point has created a major rift between “traditional users” and so-called “potential users.” The entire strategy of NOA has shifted from one that was focused on developing a few major brands (Kirby, Zelda, Mario, Metroid) to one that is seeking to reach out to new users via their motion control and interactive functions. While this is not unique to Nintendo, they are certainly trying to keep the focus on the peripheral’s of the Wii as opposed to the games. This is likely why you are seeing a lack of communication from the company. They are attempting to avoid oversaturating the market with messages that would reposition it as a “gaming” company as opposed to an “entertainment” company.

I think that when it comes to the website there shouold be significant data available, because the truth of the fact is that at that point consumers are activly seeking information about a game/console, but the total lack of public communication is in some ways not an entirely foolish strategy, as it allows them to seperate from their established image in consumers minds.

  28. DrOswald says:

If we assume that NOA exists to make money, then we must accept that their current business strategy is working. If we like that strategy is a different animal entirely.

I worry about the release of the motion plus. Motion controls are great for some games (Boom Blox and Metroid Corruption come to mind) but I think this increased attention to motion controls is causing many games to be made with motion controls that should not. That trend is probably going to increase with the release of the motion plus.

Thanks for your comments, Napman1 – just remember, I’m only BDA’ing those who try to push Brawl+ as the true Brawl at tournaments.

That’s the thing, no one is trying to claim Brawl+ as the “True Brawl”. No one at tourney’s tries to convince the tournament hosts to change the tourney to Brawl+, me and some other guys I didn’t know wanted to play Brawl+ at the last tournament I was at so we set up a separate Brawl+ station for people to play it if they wanted to, and some of us still played in the tournament (I personally didn’t though). There are Brawl+ tourneys, and there are Brawl tourneys. Anyone trying to convert every Brawl player into a Brawl+ player is stupid, plain and simple. Brawl+ is for those who want to play it, those who don’t can stick to Brawl. I personally am more than ready to play both, Falco in Brawl and Fox in Brawl+. Team Star Fox FTW!!!

  31. Hey Ray, I was wondering if you could link me to the page on Smashboards about texture hacking, or if they have ceased and desisted, give me your information on how to get into it. I have this great idea that casts King DeDeDe as TF2’s Heavy. (Sonic as Scout? Maybe?) i can just picture DDD yelling WAAAAHHH WAAAHH CRY SOME MORE as he mows down wave after wave of enemies with his jet-hammer. Also if you could provide some information on getting Toon Tim and Ray to work, that would be amazing. I love your comic, started reading at the Mario Galaxy comic ( i guess i’m “Rising from my Grave” [achievement unlocked]), and immediately read all the comics, and listened to all the podcasts. you guys are the only podcast i read, and one of the few consistently funny comics on the internet (barring “Baddest Company”). it’s a shame texture hacking can’t turn Mario into Dr. Mario. thanks for a million laughs. i sent this using “ask the artist” but i’m sure you’re SWAMPERTED with e-mails from French supermodels asking you on dates to Paris, so i decided to post here for good measure.
